Hitman series were always great with their optional stealth action. You can play very accurate and explore ways of assasination or grab a shotgun a take everyone down, thus making the game fun for both hardcore and midcore gamers.
Buying the game is the real puzzle...
For those of you that are confused about the editions. HITMAN 2 - Starter Pack includes Hawke's Bay, the tutorial mission for free. HITMAN 2 - Santa Fortuna Pack includes Hawke's Bay, Santa Fortuna and Himmelstein. Santa Fortuna is the second Location in the HITMAN 2 storyline, and Himmelstein is the first Location for the Sniper Assassin Gamemode.EDIT: The Locations seem to rotate every so often, but the idea is the same. Instead of Santa Fortuna you get the current Location in the rotation. HITMAN 2 - Standard Edition includes Hawke's Bay, Miami, Santa Fortuna, Mumbai, Whittleton Creek, Isle of Sgàil and Himmelstein. This is the "base game", however it isn't the end of the story! Still, this is a good edition to start at. If you like the game, you can always buy the Expansion Pass for the rest of the Locations. HITMAN 2 - Expansion Pass includes Expansions 1 & 2. This is basically a Season Pass. Owners are given new content every month, such as new locations, items, missions, etc. Expansion 1 includes New York and Hantu Port. New York continues the story and Hantu Port is a second Sniper Assassin Location. Expansion 2 gives you Siberia, which is the third Sniper Assassin Map, and an upcoming Location (EDIT: The Location is "Haven Island") for the main story. If you enjoyed Standard Edition, then go for it. HITMAN 2 - Silver Edition includes Standard Edition + Expansion 1. Not available on Steam though. HITMAN 2 - Gold Edition includes Standard Edition + Expansion Pass. The full HITMAN 2 Experience. Recommended if you want every bit of content HITMAN - GOTY Legacy Pack includes all content form HITMAN 2016. Allows you to play all locations, complete all challenges and access all items from the original reboot in HITMAN 2. If you are looking for the Ultimate HITMAN Experience, you should get HITMAN 2 - Gold Edition and HITMAN - GOTY Legacy Pack DLC.
tl;dr for the game itself: I highly recommend Hitman 2 if you enjoy funny stealth with over-the-top, occasionally rube goldberg-esque deaths and insane freedom. The levels are designed to be played multiple times. If that doesn't sound fun to you, you probably won't like it. If it does, you could probably play it forever. I mostly want to break down the DLC quickly for those that just want everything as efficiently as possible: If you have never played Hitman before, buy these two things: Hitman 2 Gold Edition + Hitman GOTY Legacy Pack. Gold has all of Hitman 2's DLC, and the Legacy Pack gives you the GotY edition of Hitman 1 playable within Hitman 2. These two go on sale fairly often (just check a site like isthereanydeal before buying directly from steam). If you already own Hitman (2016), but not the GotY edition, you can buy Hitman GOTY Legacy Pack Upgrade to upgrade your Hitman 1 to GotY status within Hitman 2; you can still play the non-GotY content within Hitman 2 without it, though. Then buy the Gold Edition for all of Hitman 2's own DLC. If you already own Hitman (2016) GotY, you only have to buy Hitman 2 Gold Edition. Hitman (2016) will automatically unlock within Hitman 2 for free.Hope this helps for those of you that want everything as easily as possible.
You're looking to buy the "HITMAN™ 2 – Standard Edition" labelled bundle. Yes it's dumb. Yes it's needlessly confusing. But please, don't skip this game just because the IO marketing team eats lead paint.
The most difficult challenge of the game is figuring out how to not get ripped off by Warner Brothers. Short version for new buyers: - Gold Edition = Standard Edition + Expansion Pass - Gold Edition + GOTY Legacy Pack = Everything - **If you're new and want my recommendation / "i just want all the levels" and no side missions, Standard + GOTY Legacy Pack.Long version: Other than that, the sequel(s) we all asked for. Years later and in an incredibly weird delivery method, but done so so well.
How can a game be so good in terms of gameplay, yet so GOD AWFUL in terms of marketing, DRM, and corporate decisions?I recommend this game as a 10/10 stealth game, but goddamn, IO Interactive, get your sh*t together.
