Harvested
Harvested has all the fun you’d expect from a strategy game – resource management, base building, and epic combat.
Additionally, Harvested lets you play as a soldier on the field.
A carefully-designed and meticulously-tested control scheme gives you all the power of a real time strategy game and a top-down shooter. There is no need to switch modes – every action is at your fingertips all the time.
Harvested defies he status-quo of bland procedural generation with hand-crafted maps that cater to specific strategies and conceal rewarding secrets.
Harvested features a massive strategy-driven and story-rich 18 mission campaign. Test your skills in carefully crafted missions.
These missions feature a variety of objectives inspired by the golden age of RTS. Some maps focus on economy, some focus on offense, and others are simply about doing whatever it takes to survive.
Additionally, Harvested features a handful of freeplay maps that cater to players who want to find out how long they can survive on Ceres.
The world is yours to conquer – cut down forests, mine into the mountains, and fish from the local stream. But gathering takes time – why not hire some workers who will do it for you?
As your fortress grows you will build lumber mills, mining camps, and fishing wharfs to train workers who will gather resources for you.
Plant trees and pave roads. Paint rivers and fill them with fish. You are the builder and your base is your own.
Defend your base using exciting top-down shooter mechanics. Choose from a knife, pistol, shotgun, machine gun, or sniper rifle.
Build turrets and barricades for extra strength. Hire a variety of soldier units to back you up.
Two enemy factions, two unique AI types – enemies will attack you with swords, guns, explosives, and more.
There is never a boring moment in Harvested.

The game is a great RTS with a great story and tutorial I have not once felt like I was missing something that I was not told about in the tutorial. I have been looking for a game like this for a long time. The base building/resource gathering is done in away that makes it both fun and challenging. I sometimes get flash back to playing Warcraft 2 watching my workers gather wood and gold.
Vashta Entertainment is going on my list of Best indie developers to keep an eye on for future games. They have been helpful in there reposes to both my problems and questions I had.

Harvested is an interesting take on the RTS genre. RTS games usually have similar gameplay with overlaying game specific mechanics that make each game different. Harvested is a refreshing take because it combines different genre’s (such as top down shooter/tower defense) base mechanics into the standard RTS mechanics instead of just adding onto the already established RTS base. However, this combination of game types can muddle the gameplay slightly. There are times where the genres meld together well, and other times it feels like one, specifically the top down shooter aspect, dominates the others. The real selling point for me beyond the gameplay itself is the music. The music is a great example of why ambiance is so important in interactive media. The music adds a lot to the feel of each situation and is done so well. Overall, it’s a solid game with real potential.
7/10 with room to improve
Pros:
Gameplay feels solid for the most part
Music and ambiance are on point and add a lot to the game
Brings back memories of late 90s/early 2000s era top down shooters
Devs are quick to respond to feedback
A fresh take on an old genre with great potential
Price isn't bad
Cons:
Buggy and crashes occasionally, but it is early access so it’s not a big deal atm
Game mechanics not fully cohesive
UI is a bit frustrating
Lack of accessibility setting, such as button mapping

It is clearly an unfinished Game Maker project (beware), yet I only played the sandbox mode and I love the concept.
Gameplay summary:
You start off alone. You harvest resources (no grinding or timegates) to build your base. You can then recruit miners, lumberjacks, and soldiers. You can add turrets, healing tiles, traps, walls, and other defences. You then need to survive. It's an RTS, base builder, and top-down shooter.
If you're like me and you enjoy non-predefined linear route base defence games, then you will also love this. It's a gem and I love it.
Unfortunately, the game has crashed twice, does not have autosave, you can pay to recruit over the limit but you won't get the unit, and the farmer units are buggy (take 5+ seconds to initiate action and do not follow your Farm commands in some cases). The game does need more content and work by the dev, though.
My issues:
- We NEED an Autosave feature especially since there are way too many crashes. There is no way the developer can play this without getting a crash. I have had 4 crashes in less than 2 hours.
- Pathfinding is pretty bad. Builders will not build for unknown reasons and they more often than not get stuck behind trees. Farmers will not complete the move and Farm command when ordering them to work on a farm.
- You can recruit units over the recruitment capacity but they will either not spawn at all even though you paid for them (Miners and Fishermen) or they will spawn but not appear in the roster (Barracks). If you upgrade a building (30+ seconds) while recruiting at the same time (~15 seconds) then that unit will not appear and you will lose resources because the upgrade didn't complete. You should disable recruitment when the unit roster limit is reached.
- Switching to your weapons from build mode is a hassle. You need to either press ESC several times to exit the unit selection box, the building placement, and the building menu and then switch to the weapons menu before you can use a weapon because otherwise if you just press 1-9 you'll end up selecting another building to place.
- When planting trees, you are able to stack the building markers by accident. When you build them, nothing appears, you still lose resources for "building" them.
- We need alternate gold sources (market/trading/taxes) because loose stones and ore are very limited and finite in Sandbox mode.
- We need increased difficulty modes. It's WAY too easy right now and not challenging.

Harvested gives me that nostalgia of getting lost in the mechanics of something completely different. The limitation of having to move a character to interact with anything in what is essentially an RTS creates a very interesting take on the genre. That being said the voice acting and the GUI could definitely use some work.

This format for RTS has a lot of potential. Ive only played a few hours and I can already say i like this game. Reminds me of some old sc2 arcade games i used to play a lot actually.

Being an Early-Access game, it's showing huge potential!
I am very much looking forward to seeing what is to come with the game, worth every penny.

"An early access game with a lot of potential. Unique blend of rts and top-down shooter and a pretty cool focus on the campaign. Looking forward to where this goes!" Looking forward to some sort of multiplayer feature in the future!! Keep it up =)
