Slay enemies with speed and precision in an over-the-top show of blood and explosions. Play solo or with others, make split-second decisions, dodge bullets, and use weapons and abilities to inflict violence in the most graphic way possible.

I played this game on my Steam Deck during a trip overseas, and it's a pretty cool Hotline Miami-style game. It can be challenging, though; I actually had to finish the final few levels using a mouse and keyboard. Overall, it ran really well on the Steam Deck. But I was not a fan of the menu music.

If you ever played Hotline Miami and thought, "This is great, but what if it was a co-op angel and demon power fantasy?" then God's Trigger is your answer.
This is a brutally satisfying, top-down shooter that's all about speed, precision, and creating a masterpiece of carnage. The comparison to Hotline Miami is a huge compliment—it has that same "plan, execute, die, retry" loop, but with its own identity thanks to the two distinct characters and their upgradable abilities.
I played the entire game on my Steam Deck OLED, and it's a flawless experience. The game being installed on a Micro SD card, it ran perfectly on SteamOS. The fast-paced action feels fantastic on the handheld, and it's an ideal game for quick sessions.
The core gameplay of switching between Harry and Judy (or playing with a friend in co-op) is a blast. Mixing and matching their powers to clear rooms in seconds never gets old.
In short: A fantastic, violent, and fast-paced action game that feels right at home on the Steam Deck. Highly recommended for action junkies.

If you think to yourself "hey, looks like a Hotline Miami clone"... Yes and no.
Yes - it features top-down camera, ultra-violence, and kick-a$$ pulsating beats.
But no - you will not be contemplating philosophical questions like "why do I like hurting other people?" here. Instead, you will just let loose, kill hundreds of sinners and fly a helicopter to Heaven, where you'll need to demolish heavenly artillery, defeat Archangel Gabriel gone rogue and, ultimately, prevent the apocalypse.
It features character progression (if a bit clunky), cooperative mode (bugged on Windows 11 - use Parsec), and weapons like Van Hellsing's gun and Holy Hand Grenade. And by the end, your characters - nerdy, sword-wielding angel and a hot demoness - of course, purely in the interests of their quest, will... Become one. Literally.
I have no idea why this game is not more popular than it is. It's a holy blast!

I don't have many complaints in all honesty but you'll definitely get tired of the "sit and wait" design of bosses later in the game (i.e the War boss fight). All in all it was pretty fun experience

Had it on a different platform. Bought it on sale to support the devs and leave this positive review. A good game.

Can't speak for the people having issues on steamdeck or who had control issues years ago, but as of 2026 I had fun with god's trigger for what it was.
God's Trigger scratched that hotline itch I've been having without overstaying its welcome at ~5-7 hours of playtime. I played solo on keyboard & mouse, and it was alright, but I could tell some of the sections had co-op in mind. Some pretty good segments; switching between characters to use their abilities/special dashes felt fluid. There were also some segements that need improvement; walking around corners with enemies instantly spotting you rewarded corner-peak-spamming with judy's ranged chains (her primary weapon) or one of the guns, which isn't a very fun playstyle for me. Some of the boss fights were also undercooked, with a lot of 'dodge until the boss gets tired and you have an opening to hit them'.
There are skill upgrades, I didn't find the minor upgrades for each skill that impactful (takes less energy to charge, more range, more duration), but the perks and the unique upgrades for each skill should be enough to let anyone interested craft a mini-build.
There are a few systems I didn't feel were too well integrated, like the 'marking' system. I tried using it a few times in the first chapter and eventually gave up since it didn't feel like it was paying off. Energy was a bit too hard to come by for that and the unique character skills. But using the skills felt pretty fun, and the combo meter was forgiving enough to let you rack up a pretty high combo each level.
Definitely not a perfect game, but I think it's worth the 80% discount price (about 4$ CAD) for twinstick shooter fans. I can't vouch for co-op (bugs or balancing) since I didn't try it, but could be good for a couple of sessions with a friend.

As a cooperative romp, it’s solid, as a long term grind, it wears out its welcome a bit early, great if you ever wanted to play a hotline miami style game coop but a bit thin and repetitive on your own.
