Go To Bed: Survive The Night
EVIL WANTS TO TOUCH YOU…TOUCH IT FIRST!
A slithering, creeping evil lurks just beyond safety of the light. Indeed, the King of Shadows is up to no good this night, and his beastly minions are getting hungrier by the second. Go To Bed: Survive The Night is an eerie “bedroom defense” game, where you must help a young boy stay alive from dusk ’til dawn as waves of malevolent shadow beings come slithering out from the darkness. Light and darkness play heavily into the game mechanics and power-ups, and you’ll spend a lot of time frantically snuffing out unholy beasties before they can get their fangs on the young lad.
Features:
-Defend against the rampaging shadow hordes!
-Test your reflexes in fast-paced twitch gameplay
-Experience a quirky tale bolstered by beautiful hand-drawn artwork and a dark, whimsical musical score
-Challenge your skills in two bonus challenge modes: Mum Rush and The Nightmare Gauntlet
-Battle the game’s creators in an ultra nerdy final boss mode surprise!

I was tempted to say that this game is far more enjoyable than it has any right to be, but fuck it: It's actually quite genuinely CLEVER, so any kudos I'm inclined to give it is fully deserved. Simple, yes...deceptively so...but definitely clever. How, you ask? Well, in...SIMPLE ways, really! Such as the fact that your visibility declines as the game progresses, meaning that the formerly easy task of clicking on all encroaching beasties becomes significantly harder, especially if you have to keep frantically turning on lights just to keep said visibility up! So, yes, it's basically a "time management" game with a very simple interface, and in that sense may well appeal to the Five Nights at Freddy's crowd (without being a completely blatant rip-off of said franchise, such as, hmmm, let's see...123 Slaughter Me Street, anyone?)! Add to all this an extremely charming art style, fabulously spooky sound and - what's this - highly competent voice acting? In an indie "horror" game?! TELL ME IT AIN'T SO!!
And okay, so the main story mode doesn't appear to be that long - though I for one am yet to beat it - but there's a couple of mini-modes on the side to give it all a bit of longevity. So on sale, at least, it's certainly a bit hard to argue with the more-than-adequate bang-for-your-buck...unless you're one of those tiresome fucks who complains about spending a measly few bucks on a game to find it doesn't last for twenty-seven-plus hours. (Seriously, you people really are tiresome, and should find something more worthwhile to concern yourselves with...maybe turn on the TV news for five minutes some time...THAT oughtta scare the living shit out of you! I know it gives ME fuckin' nightmares...)
Oh, and for all you "clicker game" people: This is a bit like that, only it requires some degree of thought and skill. Just in case you still want that experience of clicking the mouse a thousand times a minute, but with a bit of added strategy and, er, CHALLENGE involved...just as an added bonus on the side, y'know...
Verdict: 8.5/10.

The King of Shadows wants to get you and is sending his minions as soon as your mother sends you to bed: to survive the night you'll have to touch (click) the shadowy horrors coming your way before they grab you.
Go To Bed: Survive The Night is a short clicker/ reflex game where you face the aforementioned shadow monsters in three different areas as the clock slowly counts towards sunrise: as a whole it's a decent but basic experience that fans of the genre might enjoy.
PROS:
-has a quite nice art style
-simple but effective soundtrack, the narrator does a decent job
-the different monsters/ areas give some variety
NEUTRAL:
-the gameplay is obviously basic
-while it can get hectic at times I don't feel the game is particularly challenging, I've completed it without upgrades and never died despite a few close calls
-I found the extra modes pretty dull
CONS:
-extremely short, story mode'll take 30 mins if you don't die
-at least one achievement (beating story mode without getting hit) is broken and the game throws an error, while still working into windowed mode, at the ending cutscene
-no way to pause a stage while you're playing
-you need to finish story mode in one sitting as, afaik, the checkpoints will be erased if you quit before finishing the story
The game was decent but short-lived fun for me, of course you're basically just clicking things as fast as possible but at least there's a bit of variety to it such as lights that needs to be kept on, a couple helpful objects to buy from a store, enemies that need more than one click and a stage where branches will obscure your vision. It's very short but I feel this works to its advantage as it ensures the game doesn't overstay its welcome before the simple gameplay gets boring and your hand gets too sore.
I personally wasn't too impressed by the extra modes as Mom Rush is an endless mode that's only fun for a couple tries before you realize it's pretty pointless with no scores/ leaderboards while the Nightmare Gauntlet changes things a bit through a few gameplay changes but is too reliant on grinding levels until you unlock the next stage.
All things considered Survive The Night is a decent, if short, proposition if you like the genre but I don't feel it does enough to warrant its price so I'd get it on a bundle or on a big sale.

The store page video shows accurate gameplay. It gets repetitive very fast. The art style along with the concept of the game is very well thought out and well made. Game does get addicting

I've already played through Go To Bed once, when it was still in beta last year, so I already know I'm recommending it
Everything I loved about it then is still there, plus achievements and a "gauntlet" mode, for added replayability. This is everything a 'casual' game should be, easy to play and well constructed. The sound design is especially topnotch. The music is delightful, and the creature voices are super creepy. Hardcore horror fans may not be scared, but it does a great job of capturing the feeling of being scared of the dark.

How do you recommend a game that causes RSI to flare up? This was cute, but yea, makes the wrist hurt. I enjoy the overall presentation. It's a very simple game but I actually think I would prefer to play this on mobile.

Surprisingly effectively threatening. The mechanics and "story" are very simple, but it's a good way to drive a little time spent playing a game.

It's an ok clicker defense.
You click on hands that approach a kid in bed for a time on each level.
You can collect spiders to buy upgrades and orbs to unleash special attacks against the approaching horrors.
Other obstacles show up later on.
It has other modes that add difficulty for a challenge and replayability.
Get it on a discount or a bundle and it's worth a couple quid.
