Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare

Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare is set in a chaos filled world occupied by battling factions, bandits and warlords who seek to rule the world. The game is about your career as a faction leader: Start with minimal assets, you need to make money, build an army, wage wars against other factions and eliminate your rival forces with thoughtful strategies and fine marksmanship and eventually conquer the world. The game provides a completely different shooter experience which strikes a balance between intense first-person action and general strategy. The game's innovative combat system blends tactical FPS with real-time strategy, allowing you to command an army, plan for tactics in the God view, while immersing in the intense firefight as a foot soldier, in the first person perspective. Start your career with almost nothing, you must make money, recruit soldiers, loot villages, fight bandits, attack territories and dominate the world. The game is a combination of challenging action and a wider strategic theater.

Its a rough game but just know its getting reworked as we speak - some things are very buggy. Also some features are missing as of now.
However, if you're looking for a game with potential, then this is it. Basically Mount & Blade - but with in-depth customisation on units armour, guns & other equipment.
take some negative comments about the devs with a pinch of salt, the games being worked on still

I don't recommend buying the game *now* unless you're aware it's classic eurojank and prepared to deal with that. Imagine Mount & Blade: Warband without any of the patches. It's a very fun concept, but buggy as hell right now.
I DO recommend coming back and checking in a year or so. Chuck it in your wishlist and let it languish there, because the developers are currently working on rebuilding the whole game and when they finish, Steam will be much more likely to let you know that its had a major update by displaying it on the storefront for you.

There are a two things to address:
1. Is the game abandoned? Not at all, it's just that most reviewers aren't looking past the steam news for development updates. There's only three guys working on rebuilding the game from the ground up (They started this work sometime in April 2021), so it will take some time for the rework to come to fruition. That said, if you're looking for just the new version experience, I would recommend waiting to buy it until then, unless you want to support the developers financially.
2. The current (old) version: Do I recommend it? Despite a lot of bugs and lack of polish, I do. It's a fun game to sink some hours into now and again, and shooting down bands of looters and pirates with your squads is an entertaining killfest that is reminiscient of Mount and Blade, but with guns and modern politics/skill trees. If you have $25 to spare, this is definitely a solid choice that could (and for me, did) easily fulfill my personal expectations of at least one hour of entertaining play time per dollar spent.

Honestly I understand a lot of people in the reviews tab talking about how the devs haven't said anything but they did just put out a little announcement that they are still working on it. They said almost exactly 6 months ago that it would be half a year for them to get a rework out. They recognize that it was taking longer than promised. So don't listen to the people with less than 10 hours in the game saying its bad and that they haven't heard from, the devs at all. Ive seen this game hit some pretty big milestones over time and they are trying to recover it so that the players DONT feel scammed, not to scam the players. Sit tight, don't purchase it right now if you can't handle an unfinished product, and wait for the update. Still a fun game, I enjoy fiddling around with it still.

I have played this game all the way through on a couple different save points. I really have enjoyed it. Don't notice bugs like every other review to be honest. Think i bought this game for around $10 a few years ago. if i played this for 10 hours i would say it was worth the money....here we are 136 hours and climbing and I just want more...its a great game to come back to. i think the people complaining about this game should have read reviews and watched videos instead of slamming these guys for a pretty decent game. I have purchased games for $60 on steams with a lot of hype that I have played way less or just didn't really get into. We all know what we get ourselves into when buying games nowadays guys. Do your homework and return it quickly if you don't like it. Don't write these short an annoying reviews about how awful this game is when you have like 3 hours of playtime. You have plenty of safety nets in place with steam and twitch/youtube to make a educated purchase. Ya'll should feel bad....come one guys. this isnt xbox nor a $60 exclusive, Guess you just can't please everyone.
