My classroom computer had this game on it in first grade. Anytime we had free time on the computer, I would play Freddi Fish and The Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds. It's a colorful game that has you going back and forth through different areas picking up items and solving puzzles. Fun game that I enjoyed as a kid and even my kids have enjoyed, proving that it still holds up well today.

I first played this game on the family computer when I was like 4 years old, and even though I have aged a lot since then it is still a pure delight! A perfect little point and click game for kids!

Absolutely life-changing game, I now realize that the pre-Freddi the Fish era in my life was a dark age that I can only look back on with ignominy. From today onward I am a new man with a revitalized conception of the wider world. There shant be a day forward where the influences of this game will not guide the way I live the rest of my life.

I had completely forgotten that this game existed until seeing it on a forum somewhere recently and had a flood of memories from a kindergarten class where Freddi Fish was for some reason always running on a big dumb clunky PC.
Nabbed the game on sale, sat down and had a surprisingly good time. You'll easily beat this child's game in one sitting but it'll be a pretty enjoyable if not nostalgic hour and a half if you like simple point and clicks.

This is a game of all time, an experience that takes you through the highs and lows of life itself. As Sun Tzu once said "To fight and conquer in all our battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." and this game truly embodies this quote in its entirety. This is shown during the ending which I will let find out for yourself as this game is a masterpiece of writing and intellectual humor as well as deep storytelling throughout the various areas of the game.

This is the fifth stop on my Nostalgia Tour and it is incredible how much the quality of Humongous Entertainment games jumps with this title. The ones before this were still great games, don't get me wrong, but this one absolutely excels.
Tragically, this was the only Freddi Fish game I got to play growing up, but Freddi felt just as much a part of the H.E. catalog to me because of just how good this title was for a kid like me, and it still holds up to this day. I mentioned the jump in quality, and that's plain to see just looking at this game. The characters are all very expressive, charming, and creatively designed. It is very easy to find some favorites there, especially taking into consideration the voice acting and little story beats on display. Actually, one of the reasons this game had such an impact on me as a kid was the whole "Squid Father" angle of things. I mean, there's an actual villain in this title, which is rare for these games, and the plot with him is left to be further touched on in future titles. It's a very neat dynamic to this franchise, which would have made for a great kids' show pitch in addition to these games. That said, I can imagine in the alternate timeline where that did happen that maybe the show didn't outright say that if we didn't get these seeds back that everyone would DIE. Those stakes were always a bit wild to me, even as a kid.
But back to focusing on the quality, this game is really beautiful and you can really see the love and care that went into each frame. The backgrounds are all incredible works of art in their own right. I would very much like to get the originals and just have them as wallpapers. I can definitely see the elements here that will go on to influence further games in this series and even those of Pajama Sam, my personal favorite of the lot growing up. The artists behind this just did a really great job with depicting lighting and expressive environments. On top of this, the bubble UI is really charming and something about it has always stuck with me. It's all really well done and contrasts wonderfully with the typically brighter character designs.
Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the soundtrack. The music is this wonderful vibe that conjures up wistful feelings of being on the water or at the beach. There's a lot of upbeat tunes and even a few slightly spooky ones for some elements. The theme for The Sharks and the Squid Father also provides a great, quirky yet ominous tonal shift. I really can't sing enough praise about it, or any of the other bits of sound design in this title.
So, yes, that's my ramble about how good the quality of this game is. The actual gameplay, though? It's pretty engaging. There are a few minigames and activities you can come across, and a ton of collectibles. The thing this game does that ends up defining H.E. games going forward is the replayability. As you go through the game, you will probably collect items that you won't need on that run, that's because the next time you play things will be different. You'll need to go to different areas, use different items, and talk to different characters. The overall story will play out the same, but your experience will be different. I think this both kind of impressive for the time and very clever. It was a smart way to keep kids engaged and wanting to continue on their adventures with Freddi. On that second or maybe even third time through, it'll be like watching your favorite film and yet it still feels new. I'm glad this became a staple of the catalog going forward. I know it kept me spinning that disc growing up.
Well, I think I've rambled enough. Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds is an excellent game for kids and a fun little adventure for adults alike. I highly recommend picking this up, especially as part of the Freddi Fish Complete Pack or the Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack
