Forgotten Hope
"What do you do when you are feeling alone? Rejected and feeling hopeless? When you feel like your life is not worth fighting for. And that it’s time to end it all?"
Forgotten Hope is a short, first-person narrative-driven video game presented through the eyes of a teenage girl who is trying to reconnect with her past to find answers.
Our protagonist lives in a rural village, and she wakes up in a cave with no memory of who she is and how she got there. She needs to find her way out of the cave and walk around the countryside to find places to regain her lost memories – and figure out what exactly happened to her.
Key features:
- The story is narrated by our protagonist herself and contains mature topics such as depression, loss, regret, and death.
- One big open area map with strong memory points scattered around. These memory points help her remember more about her past. The remaining two linear maps will expand and conclude the story.
- A mysterious wolf will guide you to your next point of interest.
- Story completion will take around one and half hours. And every achievement can be earned within in a single playthrough.
- Features an original soundtrack that helps boost the mood of the game.
- Especially for the fans of The first tree, What remains of Edith finch, and Firewatch.
A message from the Developers
Forgotten Hope is centered around the themes of loss, grief, and regret. If anyone asks us why we decided to make our first game based on such dark and matured topics when we could have made something simple and lightweight, the reason was no brainer.
The main reason we decided to take this road was based on the question why many of us play video games in the first place? For a lot of players, video games offer an alternative to cope with depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems (Contrary to popular beliefs of course?). Also, according to reports, 46% of teenagers suffer from mental health-related issues and it is estimated that Eight hundred thousand people die due to suicide every year. (WHO – September 2019)
Our goal while creating Forgotten Hope was to increase mental health awareness because mental health affects everyone differently and recognizing when to get help yourself or offer support to someone else is a crucial step in changing those statistics for the better. ~ Black Hammer Studios 🇱🇰

I played Forgotten Hope about 3 or 4 years ago, and it's one of those rare games that stuck with me. I realized I never wrote a review, but honestly it deserves one.
This was first Sri Lankan indie game i played that told such a meaningful and emotional story. (probably the only one too) It made my weekend back then. The atmosphere, music, and message all came together in a really touching way.
The game gently reminds you that even during heavy moments, there's always something to hold on to. That message, along with the visuals and soundtrack, left a lasting impression.
It plays like a walking sim, and while I wished there was a bit more dept, likee more to explore or interact with, the core experience was strong on it's own.
We need more indie games like this from SL. Games with heart, intention and storytelling. Props to the devs. Y'all guys did something special. Looking forward to what comes next. <3

I'll give it the thumbs up as the game functioned correctly, didn't crash and does all it sets out to achieve. Walking simulator covering mental health/suicide themes. Felt like a personal project and can see some personal love in the way it was crafted by the dev.

A nice game that delivers a valuable message throughout its story, addressing the serious topic of mental health. With an emotional narrative and a powerful message for everyone, it’s truly great work.
