For The King is a strategic RPG that blends tabletop and roguelike elements in a challenging adventure that spans the realms. Set off on a single player experience or play cooperatively both online and locally. None before you have returned from their journey. Will you put an end to the Chaos?

For The King is a turn-based roguelike rpg where you control a band of up to three heroes trying to save the kingdom of Fahrul from certain doom. Your party will journey through the countryside, battling the forces of chaos and preparing to avenge the king.
In the main campaign, your party will follow a series of quests that will ultimately lead to you defeating Vexor, the dark wizard. These quests basically involve going to different locations, fighting different groups of enemies, and occasionally doing a dungeon, which is a series of fights and special encounters one after the other. In between these quests, you’ll fight other enemies, find various random encounters, and gather resources and equipment.
Going into your first run, the game throws a lot of information at you. As a new player, it was often hard to tell what was going on, and it took me a while to learn what all the different stats and effects actually did. I was playing with a friend who already knew what to do for my first couple of runs and I still missed a lot. There are tool tips and an encyclopedia but no tutorial, so a new solo player might find it hard to get into.
The game is pretty tough. Your skill points affect the chances of succeeding at rolls, but even high skill points don’t necessarily guarantee a win. You can strategize, plan ahead, and take calculated risks to maximize your chances of success, but even then, sometimes really bad luck can unexpectedly end a promising run. Prices inflate and enemies get more difficult as the game wears on, so if you have a punishing fight near the end of the game, it can be very hard to recover your resources to keep going. Your run also ends if your whole party dies, so if you want to start again, you start from the beginning. Even on apprentice, the easiest difficulty, the campaign is hard to finish. I enjoy the challenge, and it’s fun to try new strategies and party compositions to see what works, but it’s definitely had frustrating moments. I’ve only successfully finished the campaign once so far.
There are a few different game modes you can play. Most of the other adventures are pretty similar in gameplay to the main campaign, but are themed around a particular setting, have a different map, and a different set of enemies. There is also an endless dungeon mode and a mode where you race against your party members to get gold. I like the other modes. They provide a nice change of pace from the main campaign, with their own challenges, and are much shorter.
Overall, For The King is very difficult, but a lot of fun, especially with friends. While the luck-based elements can be frustrating, I’ve generally found it a fun challenge. The gameplay can get a little repetitive, so I sometimes go for long stretches without playing it, but I find myself coming back to it again and again. 8/10

I did a single play through of this game several years ago and fell in love with it, but my party disbanded. When FTK2 came out, I played it through to 100% over the course of a year with some friends, and we've decided to backtrack into FTK1 now to do the same. I was a bit worried as FTK2 is one of my favorite games of all time given the memories I made with the people I played with. While we miss certain UI upgrades and abilities from the sequel, there's a serious charm about the art and how this game runs in comparison that is making us happy, and it's kind of trippy to go back in time and see a lot of scourges/main characters as younger versions of themselves (and some that aren't even in the sequel!). Everytime certain characters speak we just chuckle because we know what their futures hold. If you want a smoother gaming experience, just hop to 2, but if you're in it for the funsies and the fandom, this is a great game.
Plus, if you are hit with a bleed, you bleed triangles. Highly recommend screaming, "Oh no! Not my spicy Doritos!" in response.

really struggled with the game first time trying; it was just me and my bf aand it was very hard to manage support/damage balance as a group of only two- we either went full damage and suffered on healing/buffing and died as a result; or either one of us would take up full support role and we'd still die due to insufficient party damage.
it seems the sweet spot is to have a three people group; we had a friend join up recently and we're currently on our third map. been really fun. idk how it goes on hard mode but we're slowly getting there. game has its ass moments sometimes; you get f load of gold at the final objective- the campaign ends :D can't spend it or have it accumulate in some sort of other type of currency too...wow you're trolling your players!! how unique of you XD

Very enjoyable and re-playable game, as there are many different classes, gear, and cosmetics.
Story mode is more like a board game with Hildabrants cellar being strictly turn based fighting.
This game can be played casually or not with the various difficulty settings, and only gets more fun as you can unlock more items just from playing.
The only downside being that you cant exactly play this game solo, as it requires at least two players to complete the story mode or get past level 30 in the cellar. You can play as multiple characters and play that way but It slows the game down.

First and foremost: This is an incredible little rougelike strategy RPG game.
Saying that, I have to admit that is is very niche game too. For one, its balls hard with a very high barrier for entry. Your runs will become unmanagable very quickly without meticulous planning, which will lead to you dying and having to start all over again. Secondly it is sometimes very based on luck. This to me though, isnt a flaw but an integral part of the game. In essence, the entire game is based on you strategically deciding when to use your recources to tip the odds in your favor or when to let the dice roll freely.
If that doesnt sound appealing to you, then I totally get that, but if you are willing to give the game a real shot, im sure youll find much enjoymnent in it. Ive been figureing out the game with a buddy and I havent had this much fun with a game in years.
Ive seen a bunch of people criticising the game for being either too hard or luck based. These people clearly just werent into the core concept of the game. Theyre basically just asking for a different game, rather than criticising the game for what it is.
All I can say is
TRY IT OUT!!

Great strategy game. Fun. But, just make sure your happy with your characters order because it can't be changed once you started the game. Example: In your three man line up, Put your tank on the side so when he taunts any AOE attacks hit one extra person and not two. But if this is your thing get on sale.

I honestly cannot believe it took my husband and me this long to hear about this game. Do you like RPG games? Rougelike games? Tabletop RPG games? Cooperative fantasy games to play with your friends? If any one of those is true, this game is absolutely for you. Original, imaginative, easy to learn, addictive, and insanely fun to play. There is a ton of replay value even in the same campaign, and on top of that there are tons of unique campaigns. In addition, as you play you slowly unlock more and more cool things that can randomly generate on your map across multiple playthroughs, resulting in a familiar feeling game consistently having fresh things to discover. 100/10 an absolute must play for any fantasy, RPG, or rogelike fan, especially those looking for something to play with a friend or significant other.
