By all means this has the potential for a very good game. Anyone can tell you it is damn outright addictive to play. Mechanically this game is simply put fun 90% of the time. The other 10% falls into the realm of inconsistency which has been a problem since day one.
Pros:
-Addicting gameplay
-Fast or Slow paced combat depending on the situation
-Always good looking. This game in terms of looks is mint.
-Customization, let me just say that the fashion is something worth grinding for. You can suck at this game and still play for the fashion. And it continues to get updated.
-EZ entry into matchmaking when your MMR is low. It'd take either a flawless record or many many hours to see higher MMR.
-High skill ceiling
-Insensitive for coordination with teammates.
-In game currency can get you just about anything in game.
-Lots of external information like on Reddit or Youtube or even discords to help you get acclimated to this game.
Cons:
-Inconsistency due to connections and reused code. All it takes to ruin this game is someone with McDonald's wifi.
-A lackluster story with an antagonist that had potential but was short lived.
-MMR separation. Separating the players due to skill levels is a good idea for a game like this. It's almost never fun to get your ass kicked because you see it unfold in front of you as someone distillates you. This makes the game really hard to play with friends that are significantly better or worse than you because it can completely mess with who you should be getting match up with. Take a low level friend in and you might have to watch as they lose all sanity. Or the other way around where you get put into a lobby of people on their first day. MMR might just be the most flawed part of the game.
-Ranked, there is almost no reason to play ranked due to the rewards being very rare and its a duel gamemode. Duels are extremely matchup dependent due to imbalance to characters in 1v1.
-Balancing updates are only once every few months so adapt to the state of the game and learn to be content with it.
-As frustrating as it sounds you'll have to practice a lot to get better at this game. Fast reactions will determine the ease of the game for sure but still learning the matchups and characters so that you can make reads is essential to progressing as a player. If someone spams you, adjust. Trust me there is a way to beat just about everything. Learn it.
-Your fun in this game will be EXTREMELY dependent at how good you are at it.
Now I Know the cons are high but overall this game has come a LONG way and is very unique. It's worth a shot at playing but just know you will eventually get tilted and know that its usually the players fault in performance. The game is 100% worth the buy when it's like 15 or even 20 bucks. You can't expect too much from a game that was basically condemned at launch. But it's survived this long for a reason. You like a unique fighting game that mechanically feels like you can always progress. This is it.

This game, at its core, is very good. However, I have mainly two complaints that I do have with it. For one, the community can be, at some times, very toxic. You could just be playing a hero you personally enjoy and someone in chat will flame you just for that alone. This game does offer some good moments where you meet nice and chill people. I have met some very good friends of mine on this game that I have played with for a while now. The second complaint that I have with this game is that some characters are not as viable against many others and that some characters are slightly op. You could enjoy playing a certain hero but struggle to win, simply because either your kit is worse than the character you're playing or the other character has a better kit. The developers have given way for the meta in this game to be focused around bashes and 50/50's. If your character doesn't have a bash or viable one, you're screwed and have to wait for your opponent to attack constantly because that's the only way you can deal damage. If your character doesn't have a 50/50, then you can't deal that much damage. The developers have given some confusing recovery times on certain moves on certain characters as well. A good example for this would be Black Prior's shield bash. This move deals stamina drain and damage, yet you cannot guard break them when you dodge it. Unless you are playing a character that has a dodge attack, you essentially cannot stop Black Prior when it comes to this move, which gives way for not all, but many Black Prior mains to spam this move a lot. Another thing that is probably the most frustrating and annoying thing out there is dodge-rolling out of a mixup. Highlander, Shugoki, and Warden mains probably deal with this almost everyday. Today I decided to play some Shugoki and ran into a dominion match against some competitive players. I soft feinted my unblockable into a demon's embrace to get my stamina back and all of these opponents of mine dodge-rolled away when I tried this. It is extremely annoying to deal with this and honestly the Ubisfot developers should find a way to fix this, because it's hard to play a character if my opponent is just going to neglect choosing one of the 50/50 options, which gets rid of any potential damage I can do. If the Ubisoft developers can improve characters that are not viable and get rid of some annoying recovery times, spam, and improve dealing with the dodge-roll mechanic, then this game can definitely do extremely well. This game though, has given me some good times more than bad times. Learning the game can feel frustrating at first, but can feel very rewarding when you learn your character and how to play against other characters. It also is very rewarding to deflect someone, win a 1v2+ situation, or do some other satisfying thing. In my opinion, that gratification that you can get by those ways and more have made me always come back to this game. Sure losing the game from characters you may find annoying can seem frustrating, but the pros do outweigh the cons. If you're been mainly playing only one character and start losing with them, then maybe pick up a different character. It doesn't hurt to try out a new character, because it will make you a better player. I find myself being able to handle characters that I main easily because I have developed their mindset, which shows how learning other characters can help you immensely. One more thing I would add is that a lot of players in this game think that a certain character (in their opinion) may seem annoying to play against. To those players I would tell them to play that character that they think is annoying. It'll show you how balanced or overpowered or maybe even underpowered they may seem. It's better to know how an actual character works than just die once to them and think it's their character and not you. I have played this game for quite a while, and I thought now I could give my full review of this game. This game has a lot of potential and can be very fun to play, but also can feel very frustrating to play at times. This game can be very chill, competitive, and fun to play, and I think that this game's pros outweigh the cons that are involved if you give this game enough time. Also if you get emote spammed then your opponent is really annoyed with you, trying to annoy you, or you just ledged or rekt lol.

This game will chip away at your mental health with every match. It either infuriates me or brings me much joy. Sometimes I just want to develop trichotillomania just so i can rip out every strand of hair from my head because of how broken the game is at times. With that being said, give it a try. I'ts very rewarding when everything works. I really do have a love/hate relationship with this game. There's just nothing else like it.

After being in a abusive relationship with this game for 3 years I finally decided to write a pros/cons list of this game to warn people what they would be getting into.
Pros:
-A Unique and easy to learn fighter.
-Low skill entry point with a high skill ceiling.
-A great mix of cultures to be found in each faction/fighter.
-Almost everything can be unlocked with playtime and in-game currency.
-Seasonal events to keep community engaged.
Cons:
-The game is not by any means balanced, with very little balancing done every 3-4 months. With only very little being changed.
-The Ubisoft Dev. team seems to ignore any feedback given by the community concerning balancing the game (e.g. Testing Ground feedback that went out the window when the Combat Update released).
-Nerfs to characters no one was asking for, to also include large nerfs to some characters making them significantly weak and undesirable to play (e.g. The samurai faction: Hitokiri, Nobushi, Shinobi )
-Reflex guard: A mechanic from release that was made obsolete with recent patches, is still in the game despite the community wanting it removed. It is also rumored to be broken and not work sometimes resulting in "ghost guard"
-Obvious Lag-switchers, and bots with little to no action taken by Devs.
-The Dev's scummy monetization practice by releasing an overpowered character that you can play early for real cash, then nerfing them shortly after it would be available for free (e.g. Warmonger
-The dev's obvious favoritism towards the Knights faction (All characters added in 2020 are knightrs, All S-tier duelists are knights due to their lack of nerfs)
- The dev's seem to vehemently hate the asian factions (samurai, wu lin) by issuing nerfs to characters no one asked for and ignoring and pleas to balance them. Only a few are viable due to some oversight from the recent Combat Update which is predicted to be removed come the next update, which again only happens every 3-4 months.
I have been playing this game on and off for the last 3 years only getting back to it with the recent Core Combat Update back in August (which broke many character animations, some still broken to this day). The game is fun but like many other reviews before me, the choices made by the Devs push people away, only to be pulled back in with vague promises to be better. Just like an abusive relationship.
