Fantasy General II: Invasion is the return of a strategy classic from the 90s! Fight exciting turn-based 3D tactical battles leading a variety of fantasy units, heroes and creatures, level them up and carry them over from one scenario to the next. Vanquish your enemies through a combination of military might, guile and magical prowess. Play through a 33 scenarios campaign, or take it to skirmish, either against the AI or in multiplayer. Or take advantage of the built-In scenario editor to make your own battles. Three hundred years have passed since the Shadow Wars have ravaged Keldonia and the world of Aer, and the struggles of the past have long since faded into legends. In the Highlands of Fareach, Clans of Barbarian warriors have eked out a living in the harsh northern climate, constantly feuding with each other and raiding the wealthier Borderland towns. Fed up with these constant attacks, the Borderland Clans called on the Empire for help – a powerful realm controlling the land from the Scarlett Mountains to Cynehelm Valley and the Hoarwood. The Western Imperial Legion was sent to face the highland raiders, and with the help of the Borderland clans Iseal and Machnar, killed High King Brendan in the battle of Wyrm’s Pass.

Fantasy General 2 ist ein rundenbasiertes Strategiespiel, das die Tradition klassischer Hexfeld-Strategiespiele fortsetzt und mit modernen Elementen verbindet. In einer klassischen Fantasy-Welt übernimmt der Spieler das Kommando über eine Armee, bestehend aus verschiedenen Einheitentypen wie Infanterie, Bogenschützen, Reitern und fantastischen Kreaturen.
Die größte Stärke des Spiels ist die taktische Tiefe. Geländevorteile, Flankenangriffe, Moral und Einheiten-Combos entscheiden über Sieg oder Niederlage. Der Einheiten-Editor ermöglicht umfangreiche Anpassungen, und der Helden- sowie Veteranen-System sorgt für eine Bindung zu den Truppen. Die Kampagne ist umfangreich, und der Skirmish-Modus bietet Wiederspielwert.
Schwächen zeigen sich in der veralteten Grafik und einer teils überwältigenden Komplexität für Neueinsteiger. Die KI ist vorhersehbar, und die Story bleibt konventionell.
Fazit: Fantasy General 2 ist ein solider, taktisch fordernder Hexfeld-Strategie für Genre-Fans, die klassisches Gameplay mit modernem Komfort schätzen. Wer actionreiche Echtzeitschlachten oder innovative Neuerungen sucht, ist hier falsch. Für Puristen aber empfehlenswert.

Good game. Kinda like Battle of Wesnoth or Warlords. I played the Campaign, nothing else. The story is interesting and I did enjoy it. The armies are versatile and fun to play. I felt the game was somewhat lacking of area of effect spells though. Graphics are okay, too.

I got it for free, its Civilisation but only the war part. The story is okay but there ar only 2 Factions, how is that possible for a full price game?!
Buy it for less then 5 Bucks and its okey, run away if it costs more!

and what i have to say? I like it! The Units feels important and different, the style of gamplay is a bit different to other turn-based strategy games. But in combination with the story, i like it.

All round well done game with meaningful decisions and an interesting setting as well as unit management. Long campaign as well with multiple map choices for replayability.
