Istnieją na tym świecie zagadki nad którymi idzie się głowić miesiącami. Taka świnka morska przykładowo. Kto widział te stworzenie ten nie potrafi rozumem ogarnąć z której strony podobne to do świnki? I dlaczego miałoby mieć związek z morzem, skoro definitywnie nie pożyje w nim zbyt długo? Pogrzebałem, poczytałem i wiem, że – w skrócie znacznym – wynika to z błędów w tłumaczeniu z keczuańskiego, który miał/ma jeszcze ze 3 dialekty. Bogatsi o tę lingwistyczną ciekawostkę możemy uczynić teraz co następuje: nazywać wspomniane stworzenie po prostu kawią domową oraz zadumać się w toku lektury nad związkiem tych dywagacji z Fallen Legion+.
Gra jest połączeniem beat' em up z RPG. I jeżeli ktoś myśli, że takie połączenie bywa równie fortunne jak świnki z morskością, to jest w błędzie. Bo w tym przypadku poszło sprawnie i jest to dokładnie takie jak napisałem. Dla braci (i sióstr) mocniej osadzonych w klimatach RPG mówię, że beat' em up, to bijatyki gdzie podążamy kanonicznie w prawo i tłuczemy hordy niemilców za pomocą ciosów, kopnięć czy ewentualnie broni z włączeniem zasięgowej. Brać bijatykowa wie niech, że w RPG istotny jest rozwój postaci, walka z użyciem umiejętności specjalnych postaci oraz wybory dokonywane podczas toku fabuły. Wiem, że zdawkowe to definicje, ale już jeden akapit i tak poszedł na pocieszne gryzonie, więc lecimy dalej. Przepraszam, ale nie przepraszam. Bogatsi o nowe informacje układamy sobie to w głowie. Zadajemy sobie pytanie: czy to się ma prawo udać? Dowiecie się na końcu.
Fabuła rozgrywa się w fikcyjnym państwie Fenumia i bliskich przygranicznych okolicach. Realia świata to fantasy: mamy magię i wynikającą z niej obecność przeróżnych istot, jak wywerny, minotaury, drzewce i wiele innych. Fanumia to ludzkie królestwo, ale z rozumnych ras spotkać można też orki, choć raczej po stronie ludów barbarzyńskich. Umarł król niech żyje... No właśnie? Kto? Możemy rozpocząć grę jako jego córka, czyli księżniczka Cecila albo jako jeden z jego zaufanych – mimo młodego wieku – generałów czyli Legatus Laendur. Oboje są obecni przy wieści, że król zmarł i oboje słyszą przemawiającą do Cecilii ksiegę (Grimoire). Od tego momentu fabuła jest ukazywana z perspektywy wybranej postaci, choć będą do nas docierać ze świata wieści, które zawierają też w sobie echa poczynań tej drugiej postaci. Po dokonaniu wyboru protagonisty ruszamy odbudować chylące się ku upadkowi królestwo.., albo wszczynamy słuszną rebelię przeciwko czemuś gorszemu od tyranii. Ale jak w prawdziwej antycznej tragedii: bywa że obie strony konfliktu mają swoje racje i całość dramatu opiera się na niepełności perspektywy. Warto po ukończeniu gry zobaczyć jak wygląda Fanumia w oczach drugiej postaci – zaskoczenie murowane. Oczywiście to czy postanowimy być władcą szlachetnym o gołębim sercu, tyranem czy spróbujemy zachować równowagę obu podejść do kwestii rządzenia zależy od nas.
Wybory zdarzają się w grze nader często i nasze decyzje wypływają na toczone przez nas akurat na danej lokacji walki, jak i na dalsze losy prowincji, skarbca królewskiego, podległych nam wojsk itd. Aby było ciekawiej: na ich dokonanie mamy ledwie kilkadziesiąt sekund! Wybór wesprze jedną z trzech sił politycznych Fenumii: Prime Legion (najlepsi i najbardziej zasłużeni wojskowi doradcy), Council of Princes (rada doradców mająca wpływ na finanse w państwie) i March Congress (magowie i uczeni nieobarczeni sumieniem, szkolą w Soulmancji). Ale czy coś stoi na przeszkodzie aby wesprzeć raz jedną frakcję, raz drugą? Część problemów lepiej dać rozwiązać wojsku, radzie czy też poprzeprowadzić niezbędne doświadczenia. A może zwyczajnie będzie dla nas istotne jaki bonus uzyskamy w danej walce? A dokładnie nasi wojownicy: Exemplarzy?
Soulmancja i Exemplarzy to terminy wymagające wyjaśnienia. Soulmancja pozwala przyzwać adeptom dusze czy może raczej idee dawnych istot czy nawet bohaterów. W świecie gry uzyskujemy dzięki temu spersonifikowane postacie broni: od mieczy i włóczni, po arkebuzy i możdzieże. One stają się naszą strażą przyboczną w liczbie trzech. Postacie różnią się atakami, siłą, szybkością, obroną, żywotnością i zgraniem z resztą Exemplarów. Wybieramy też przed walką jaki mają użyć atak specjalny. Moralność naszych poczynań wpływa też na formę jaką wspomniane awatary broni mogą przyjąć odtwarzając dawne wspomnienia słynnych bohaterów czy niesławnych łotrów. W mechanice wygląda to tak, że każdej z postaci zostaje przypisana pozycja i odpowiedni jej klawisz bądź przycisk na padzie. Każda z nich ma 3 akcje do wykonania, a następnie czeka aż wskaźnik akcji się zregeneruje. Trwa to na tyle szybko, że plasuje to grę wśród bijatyk. Rozsądnie jest też nauczyć się idealnych bloków, które fortunnie nie kosztują akcji, acz wstrzymują regenerację wspomnianych na czas trzymania bloku. Idealny timing bloku ataku przeciwnika jest też ważny z powodu szybszego uzyskiwania w ten sposób dostępu do akcji postaci i niemal niweluje zadane Exemplarom obrażenia, często czyni przeciwników podatnych na dotkliwe kontry. Rozgrywka ma więc przebieg wybitnie zręcznościowy: blokowanie w odpowiednim momencie, seria ciosów – często owocująca atakiem specjalnym gdy nie przerwana otrzymaniem obrażeń. Do tego użycie magii bohatera do posłania we wrogów kuli ognia, podleczenia swoich wojowników czy nawet przywracanie na pole walki poległego w boju Exemplara. W toku gry możemy też poznać nowe zaklęcia. Walki bywają wymagające i warto starać się zachować Exemplarów przy życiu, czy raczej na obecnym planie istnienia. Eliminacja ich wszystkich pozostawia naszego bohatera sam na sam z przeciwnikami: mamy dosłownie sekundy aby pokonać ich zaklęciami albo przywołać szybko Exemplara. Bywa trudno!
Poza wspomnianymi wyborami frakcji w trakcie walki nasi wojownicy rozwijąją się też dzięki szlachetnym kamieniom, które nosimy w trzech dostępnych na nie slotach. Oferują one wzrost statystyk Exemplarów (bywa, że kosztem zmniejszenia innych), ale i zaklęcia, które zastąpią używane obecnie, więc dobierajmy je z głową, bo w trakcie walk nie ma możliwości zamiany. Smutna wiadomość dla fanów rozbudowywania postaci i wykupu umiejętności z liczonej w setkach puli: wybory dotyczące rozwoju postaci zamykają się w doborze kamieni, decyzjach związanych z wydarzeniami i tego jakich Exemplarów w jakiej konfiguracji zabieramy w bój. Gra nadrabia za to klimatem dark fantasy ze szczyptą estetyki anime.
Graficznie całość prezentuje się estetycznie. Ręcznie rysowane tła i postacie, cyferki przy zadawanych i otrzymywanych obrażeniach, jak i licznik combo. Dzieje się dużo zacnie animowane – bohaterowie jak i niemilcy. Wielbiciele kreski w stylu anime będą zadowoleni.
Jak jesteśmy przy anime, to warto też powiedzieć, że postacie główne mają solidnie podłożony głos, choćby przez Xanthe Hyunh jako Cecille. Jest znana z użyczania swojego głosu choćby jako Monaka Noguchi w anime Kite Liberator. Muzyka też zagrzewa nas do walki zgodnie ze standardami gier z salonów arcade. Każdy z Exemplarów ma własne okrzyki bojowe i bólu. Ścieżka dźwiękowa jest akuratnie dopasowana do gry.
Gra ma też tryby New Game+ oraz typowo wyzwaniowy tryb jednego życia z permaśmiercią i koniecznością rozpoczynania gry od początku. Gdybym miał coś grze konkretnie zarzucić, to nierówny poziom trudności. Możemy iść przez dziesiątki walki niemal ziewając, aby nagle odkryć, że przy walce z bossem rwiemy sobie włosy z głowy. Trudno też uznać ten tytuł za jednoznacznie przeznaczony dla fanów beat' em up czy RPG. Ja bawiłem się przy niej dobrze.
