Edit
Legend calls them the Ravenii, encroaching armies of bloodthirsty monsters standing 150 feet tall that threaten to destroy mankind. You are one of the world’s last Sentinels, a soldier named Avil equipped with the skills to battle the endless wave of Ravenii. Fight massive brutes and their minions across a sprawling countryside, defending cities and rescuing refugees torn from their homes. Swiftly define your strategy as hordes attack from the ground and air. Use a dynamic skill-based combat system to your advantage, tactically disarming and dismembering enemies to go in for the kill. This is no longer a war. It is an annihilation. And you are all that stands between humanity…and extinction.

If this game was priced at $15 - $20 it would have Mostly Positive reviews. The gameplay is fun, if repetitive. I am basing my review solely off the gameplay and not the price. It is fun - the systems are fun - it's just far too repetitive. Asking $60 is a joke. Wait for a sale, but know the gameplay is fun/solid.

SO after playing this game for 7 hrs I've come to the conclusion of it's fun to play and worth buying (at a discounted price). DO NOT...I REPEAT... DO NOT BUY AT FULL PRICE. The gameplay is fun and yes repetitive. (But you could say the same about Streets of Rage and that's a classic.) This is like and arcade style horde mode game with bosses mixed in. I think this game's bad rep is due to a high price point and marketing. Had this game came out at $39.99, I don't think it would get bad reviews (Though I would try to get on sale no higher than $15). The controls are good however, you may get caught in an armpit or 2 trying to cut down a giant. I don't mind the art style and it ran pretty smooth for me. I would say this is for the casual gamer who wants to feel like a bad ass and has a limited time to play games. All in all, fun time and that's what we play some games for...right?

I won't lie to you, my first maybe half hour into this game, I was having a blast. Cool idea (though half stolen), decently executed, and genuinely fun to play.
Just one problem, it's waaaayy too repetitive and I had to force myself to finish this thing.
Now, repetitive gameplay isn't always horrible if your game offers other cool things connected to said gameplay to invest yourself into like story, exploration, rewarding level-up or progression systems, or effectively motivating you to improve your skill as a player.
This game does none of these and just barely does the last point.
- The story absolutely sucks and is definitely not worth mentioning
- There's very little lore to explore and map-wise, you're more incentivized to dash through it than pay attention to it.
- The level-up system seems in-depth but is actually quite shallow and just doesn't feel very rewarding. it leaves you having to level up to not die or lose rather than actually making you feel cooler or stronger
- For the last point, there are already so many levels that are each basically the same that willingly redoing levels for a better time... just no, finishing the game is a chore as it is.
So, yeah, all this game has going for it is gameplay, and don't get me wrong, it's fun, it's just that it's the same exact thing each and every level with just tiny little tweaks as you progress through.
So, who this game is for:
Someone who just wants to pop open a level every now and again and just kill some giant monsters to wind down and turn your brain off.
Who this game is NOT for:
Literally anyone who wants to invest themselves in a fun or interesting game/experience.
6/10
Do I personally recommend it? Fat No. But, there is still an audience for this kind of game, so I won't hate on it too much, hence the thumbs up.
I'm also giving it as high as a 6 because it has some pretty good potential, even though it does kinda fall flat.

Is the game a bit clunky? Yes. Is the game a bit odd? Yes. But somehow, the game play flow remains fun. You run around saving people, then running over to defeat GIANT monsters that would seem in place in Attack on Titan. The gameplay loop is simple, but it never stays easy. And the game keeps switching up the monsters so that you have to approach each of the giant ogres differently.
For me, this game is great.

Extinction's biggest 'negative' is that the developers and/or publishers took a $20ish download title and sought to market it as a $60 AAA title. Because the game is widely available for as little as $1 these days, the shallow gameplay and procedurally generated levels can be forgiven. The narrative of fending off a never ending onslaught in an attempt to escape a doomed world helps disguise the mechanics of urgency in completing your missions before the 'fail' conditions trigger. The campaign mode is only about eight or so hours and consists of a handful of the same type of missions recycled several times. There's also 'Skirmish' and 'Extinction' modes that allow you to do one-of missions for score attack and experience points to level up various ability enhancements. Had this been properly marketed and sold as a $20 budget title, it would have been interesting to see what could be done in a sequel with more time and money dedicated to the franchise. As it stands now the game is quality bundle fodder and arguably worth the $4ish on Steam if you think you'd enjoy the gameplay.

just an ok game....
If there is a demo...play the demo and that it...basically that all the game...
ALL....yes all level are the same....all 30 ...40 level are the same...generate environment and kill and defence all the way...
no depth to it...
and the annoying talking part where it pause the game...talk but dont pause the game, its an action game you know...
lazy game design...
you will always going to smell the giant armpit...yes..you will....
damn...imagine a game from beginning till the end...all the levels feel the same....
just 20 min initial fun to kill giants...after that you will get bored.......
NO...DO NOT BUY IT FOR OVER $10....if less than $10.....there better games for more than $10...

You know what? I don't mind this game at all.
The negative comments are right, the game's repetitive and doesn't offer what it promised, it's greatly overpriceed (still) and it's just overall a disappointment.
BUT...
Imagine you come from work and you're in the mood for some no-commitment, hour long session of flying around a huge ogre with a stick and chopping it's limbs off. That's basically all this game has to offer and I'm perfectly alright with it. Why?
The price of 20 bucks seems reasonable to me, as it is a product of a failed marketing campaign, and a 4 year old game after all. I got it for $2, which is helpful, but doesnt change anything.
10 minutes playtime doesnt mean anything, because in order to play the game, i have to disconnect from the internet - a bug that i cant find any fix for... Otherwise the game crashes after around 2 minutes. I'm actually mid-game and I'm sort of excited how's the game is going to look like when i max out the protagonist's skills. Getting to jump higher, hitting harder, flying further seems promising.
It's a problematic production and I could go on and on about all the flaws and things done well, but as noone's going to read this, I'll say it's a 7/10 and get it on a discount.
