Immerse yourself in a gorgeous hand-painted world on a search for your true identity. As the mysterious warrior, Dust, your action-packed journey will take you from peaceful glades to snowy mountaintops and beyond. At your disposal is the mythical Blade of Ahrah, capable of turning its wielder it into an unstoppable force of nature, and the blade's diminutive guardian, Fidget. Battle dozens of enemies at once with an easy-to-learn, difficult-to-master combat system, take on a variety of quests from friendly villagers, discover ancient secrets and powerful upgrades hidden throughout the massive, open world, and uncover the story of an ancient civilization on the brink of extinction as you fight to uncover your own past.

I have Blade of Ahrah tatooed on my forearm so you tell me if the game is good.

Indeed, it is a fantastic game. What sets this apart from so many other games? Love. You can see it; you can feel it when you play. Why is that? One guy made it. It's not some corporate tool bag—one fella with drive, creativity, and love. Of course, one guy can't do everything. The voice talent is top-notch, and the writing, for that matter, is fantastic. You can see the influence of historical games like Castlevania's energy-restoring fully cooked meat in a breakable wall and the Metroid-Blaster Masteresque notion of gaining power-ups to proceed to previously unreachable parts. I'd go so far as to suggest that Out of This World was an influence; if you've beaten that game and you get to the end of Dust, you'll know what I mean. The animations are excellent; the slash-combat is endlessly satisfying. The dash ability is beneficial without complicated fighting mechanics (that other games seem bent on doing). The music is precisely what this game calls for. It is well done and harnesses the nuances the game world seems to desire. It's simple: do you like memorable games? Get this. You won't be disappointed. You'll be elated.

After 10 years, I still think about this game sometimes. It's one of those peices of media that just radiates imagination. The work doesn't need to tell you that this world was born from years worth of one person building a world all their own, because you'll feel it in every nook and cranny of the work.
I don't want to recommend this game mechanically, because I think that would undersell it. Dust is an experience. It's a vacation into someone's dream and by the end of it you'll wish you could stay.
By now the game is only about 5 bucks or so. Do yourself a favor and just buy it. Experience it. You won't regret it.

Decided to play the game again and it still holds up pretty well as of today (2024)
Was a blast back on its release.
Fidget is a fun companion. Lol.

This game is already 10 years old and yet I keep having it pop in and out of my mind quite so often as if I had played it just yesterday. An amazing game that deserves more recognition. Fond memories from it.
