Drift

Okay so preface, I've played Drift for roughly four hours but due to how Steam handles times for gameplay... well you know how it is.
So what is Drift? Well... honestly it's Raft in spess! You are an alien that has survived some sort of oops that blew up your little station or ship or whatever and now you're out in the cosmic void trying to survive. I'll just say it, you look like a space Kobold, all the players look like space Kobolds and nothing can change my headcanon for that I'm sorry.
You start on your really janked out space platform that is damaged to heck and you dismantle, rebuild, and survive. This game's gimmick is unlike Raft you are in space and have to deal with being able to breathe, eat, and some items use electricity. Asteroids are floating every which way, including bouncing off your ship/structure, and you can harvest them for resources. The visuals are cute and colorful, the audio is pretty great, the music is comfy and spacey from what I've heard, and the difficulty is as difficult as you honestly make it.
Is the game worth 20 dollars, as of writing this review discounted to about 16 dollars? Goodness yes! Do you have some friends to get lost in the void with as you adorably survive this scientific oops of a scenario? You'll probably get a kick out of this game! 8 player coop!
Oh and the devs do seem quite active so that makes me feel great about the future of development.
My only real complaint is the crushing function, see some things need to be crushed to release a new resource... I wish I could just click to crush a stack without needing some tech, just a "hold these buttons to crush stack" or "hold the crush button to rapidly crush" but hey that's why we have feedback!

The game play loop of Drift is to adventure out from your destroyed ship to collect resources from the asteroid belt that you spawn near and to rebuild your ship. You'll also need to manage your oxygen and nutrition to stay alive. As you gather resources you'll be able to unlock several work stations that will allow you to progress through the game.
The pacing of the game feels pretty good and once you understand where to get the specific resources you need you'll quickly be able to ramp up progress. At the time of this review I have spent 5 hours in game and without spoiling any of the content I've unlocked all but two "things."
During my 5 hours I did experience a game breaking bug where I got stuck on terrain and couldn't get free but for the launch the devs have added an unstuck button as a temporary fix for this. When I loaded my save where I was stuck my character was free and able to return to my ship so it appears to be fixed.
Overall the foundation is there for a decent game but whether you want to buy it now really depends on two factors. First are you okay with early access? Second are you okay with the current price knowing you'll likely see all the game has to offer in about 5-6 hours? I'm going to give the game a recommend based on what I've seen but if you answered no to one or both of these question I'd recommend wishlisting the game and waiting for a few updates to see how the game progresses.

A fun and chill survival experience, Drift feels like a relaxed version of voidtrain in space. It manages to strike, for me, the right balance between survival game grind and progression - that is to say I was able to always see what my next goal was, and how to work towards it, but it required a little back and forth in the way you expect from games in the genre.
At the moment it is quite light on content, but what is there is a very solid foundation and I'm looking forward to seeing what the game becomes over its life in early access. Try out the demo - if you like the demo, you will likely have a good time here :)

Very fun for the first 5 hours. But then I've spent almost 2 hours stuck on progression because I just can't find 2 of the 4 colors of crystals. I've gone thousands of kilometers from my base and found maybe a handful of asteroids that contain crystals inside, but they've always only been 2 of the 4 needed to progress.

I've become friends with the developer and watched him take this from an early prototype to what it is today. I think the turning point for me was seeing some of the crazy stuff people could build during the demo. It's not like certain other games (e.g. with trains in space) where building feels like an over-tutorialized chore. While you do build some stuff to survive, you also build for the joy of it, which is more my style.
Although there isn't a huge amount of content yet, it's more than enough to spend hours building crazy space stations. I recommend it based on the trajectory of the game, and I look forward to seeing what people build as new content is added.

It's Raft in Space with some aspects of Satisfactory. I love it!

Cute little game.
Pretty grindy but what survival game isn't. I would recommend it if you're a lo-fi type of person that just wants to float around, build and explore.
