The Good: It's an actual good rpg. Like seriously, this game is ridiculous. It's more rpg than the last 20+ years of Final Fantasy. It's just mindblowing rpg's can still be made with this kind of quality, charm and love put into them, brings you back to happier days of the genre before it went all Dark Souls.
The Bad: Everytime you fall and can't get up.
The Ugly: The King that looks like Dr.Gero.

One of my favorite RPGs ever. It's a beautiful game. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately I was unable to play the S Definitive Edition, because I am a real fan of Dragon Quest and bought the Digital Edition of Light when it first released. With no upgrade option, and having already paid for the 60 dollar Digital Edition of LIght, I didn't want to buy the game all over again just to get the extras in the S version.
The Digital Edition of Light was great though, the graphics settings are superior and the base game is AAA+

7/10. Loved Act and Two. Act three spits on the glory of One and Two.
Act 3 was some wild bullshit. Story was weak and weird. And i'm not into grinding or BDSM.
This philosophy of "Difficulty" is not my thing. #NotMyCupOfTea.
I would recommend just play One and Two. That's my ending :)

I absolutely adore the dragon quest series. I loved every minute of it. The art style is among my favorite. This is a turned based JRPG adventure much like the rest of the series.
Disappointed in the developers for not offering the first version buyers a discounted version of the "deluxe".
So my review is about the version I bought, not whatever the definitive edition added. I won't buy it at full price! I feel kind of cheated.

I've been playing Dragon Quest since the early 90s (started with Dragon Warrior III) and I can say DQ 11 is already one of my favorites. The characters are charismatic and well built and the story line is dense and interesting. The only regret is that I was too eager to acquire the game and didn't wait for the Definitive Edition, which now I have to pay full price for it if I want to get it. Luckily I also own the Switch version and I played the complete edition there.
Anyways, amazing game 10/10.

Have so far only played this game on steam deck for a few hours and the first initial cutscene kept freezing on me but I think that's the graphics setting I have it on. I haven't changed settings but other cutscenes haven't frozen on me, we'll see in the future. The gameplay for this game is pure awesomeness and nostalgia mixed together, reminds me of playing Dragon Quest 8 on PS2 way back in the day. Man those were the times eh? Collecting monsters and fighting them in the monster arena was fun. The characters, monsters, and environment just scream Dragon Quest and Akira Toriyama (may he rest in peace). I'm just in love with this game and hope to put tons more hours into this game.
