I played this one on the PS4 back in the day, and I gotta say, one of my favorite entries into the series.
Amusingly funny, decent characters, Magichange is awesome, the Territory board makes some new fun mechanics, and overall the game is solid and well done.
At this point, I hope they bring Disgaea 3 to the PC sooner or later so we can finally all enjoy it in it's entirety without hunting down a PS3/Vita and a copy/ sailing the high seas just to be able to play it.

Great Game. If you've played any Disgaea game you know what you're in for.
There are stages of completion that I would recommend that you re-assess at each point to see whether or not you continue playing:
1st cycle: 40 to 60hrs
2nd cycle: if you've leveled up a fair bit in the 1st cycle then this should take a couple hours
DLC: about 10hrs
X-Dimension: depends on how big brained you are, lets say 5 to 10 hours
Defeating a certain big bad overlord: didn't take note how long but you'll be grinding for a while (under statement)
100% Achievements: took me 355hrs (305hrs save file), A lot of reading and watching, I also left game on when doing irl things
100% the game: just because you've got all the achievements does not mean that you have 100% the game. I didn't do this. This game already sucked enough of my life away.
On the topic of research...
Due to this game having a few different iterations before hitting the PC as well as localisation, there are numerous changes to the way things are done/activated/attained/read (item/character name changes). This means that there are multiple different sources of information which clash with each other as well as guides having a mix of information. This will lead to quite a few moments where you swear you are doing the right thing in order to do or get something but because the information hasn't been updated or changed before being applied to newer guides, you will be left doubting yourself and having to do further research. If you're getting all achievements then have fun with that.
...and the freakin RNG...
On top of this the end game content isn't explained in a well enough manner so I strongly recommend reading how to access this content. I know you wont reach Land of Carnage without doing so. So stupid.
The only other negative thing I have to say is that I hate characters that self-reference them themselves in dialogue. So if there was a character named Billy, for example, billy would say "Billy likes ice cream so Billy will go get some". Drives me crazy. It's cringe.
Apart from that. I like the game play style, most characters, the music is charming as always, the story...well it was alright nothing that's going to blow your socks off. Lets face it; you're here for the grind, making those numbers go up and up and up.
I recommend this game if you're already a disgaea fan. If you want to dip your toes into the series maybe start with a newer one like 5 or 7 (I haven't played these yet but from what I've read it looks like new comers to the series will have a better time here). Or you could go the opposite direction like me and start at 1 and work your way up the series (I love 1, 2 is pretty good as well).
I regret getting 100% of the achievements. Seriously think over if you want to sink that much time into this game or spend that time elsewhere playing another game. Like another Disgaea game.

Good game, I am huge fan of the Disgaea franchise.
Fair warning, although Steam shows that this game is verified and compatible for the Steam Deck, it is absolutely not. It does not progress beyond the first loading screen after the intro.
So, I would recommend playing this on a Windows system.

I spent 70 hours trying to get 2 specific achievements. This was a crazy ride.

Just amazing, improvement after improvement quality of live changes exactly what game needed compared to "rough" Disgaea 1 and 2 experience. Voice acting was good in previous episodes and overall is best from japaneese companies but this game is in my opinion on another level got JP dubbing and hearing MC just yelling IWASHI(sardies) makes me chuckle. Art and visuals are lovely definitly best yet, soundtrack and music is biggest change for better of course. I just love when game companies do this, they manage to get solid base for the game and than over the years they stay loayal to it and just keep improveing on it, it just makes life journy and unforgettable experience. And many succesful companies do with their series like Capcom (Monster Hunter,Resident Evil,Devil may cry, etc.) and From Software with dark souls engine. -Developers of this game are IMO underrated also if you wanna play Disgaea series and dont wanna start from 1 just start with this one.

Disgaea 4 has one of the best protagonists in the entire series (In my opinion), the game doesn't have as many chapters as some of the other Disgaea games, and the characters are excellent in this game compared to the other Disgaea games, sadly the game has too many Geo Puzzles and some of them feel extremely tedious.

pros: HUGE amount of QoL upgrade compare to D2PC.
cheat menu to change difficulty just the way you want.
SARDINES!!!
cons: mouse control is worse than D1PC. You can play D1PC entirely with only mouse.
UI scale and camera zoom levels are weird.
Also, Fenrick is really annoying.
