Diets and Deities
Roadmap
Are you a Rhythm Game Rock Star??
Or a Culinary Champion??
Our game is currently in Alpha and we are building up our community of testers and would love to hear from you!
About the Game
Welcome to the Epicentre Of Everywhere.
Diets and Deities is a rhythm game you can taste – music and cooking go together like salt & pepper.
Dodge, Dash & Deflect to the beat, all while un-gentrifying a world of Deities who have lost their identity in the face of an unstoppable capitalistic machine of food efficiency over efficacy led by KFZ.
Banging Music From Around the World, embark on a 5-6 hour adventure through Australian, Balinese & Brazilian-inspired locations.
Oh Yeah, We Go there. But You Won’t Be Alone.
Meet interesting Deities along the way who will make you smile, make you mad,
but most of all, make you HUNGRY!!!
All dishes you cook in the game can be made at home, with the full recipe ready
for you to follow and can be made at home.

This is a cute little rhythm game! Generally in need of some polish, but is a fine way to spend a bit of time.
Negatives
No cloud sync!
Unskippable too-long entry sequence; after the first 5 seconds, you 'get' the core gameplay mechanic– being locked in to finish this is unnecessary, and could instead stop after a few seconds and prompt the user to set a difficulty.
On the note of difficulty, the curve feels fairly inconsistent between songs... some are much too hard, some are too easy to the point of being boring.
Inconsistent art style feels a little unfinished! Some the game is pixel art, some is vector, and all of the conversation scenes are a sort of kids' doodle style.
There's a loose cooking theme to the game, but you wouldn't really know it within the gameplay at all. The rhythm elements could (should?) be ingredients used to make each recipe, vs the same symbol throughout. The 'spikes' could also be food-related to reinforce this.
Most of the songs didn't feel as if the elements were hitting properly on the beat; not sure if it's a matter of testing on different type devices or levels not being synced properly, but this took me out of it. Further, some songs would have no further notes but take a while before the track actually ended, leaving you sitting there for a while watching the path scroll but not doing anything.
Positives
Love that you've got full artist credits, and the story & setting are cool.
Getting actual recipes out of each song was a cool twist.
Game ran very well, on both a PC and Steam Deck!

ohh the art!!!! i love the sprites so much. it's so colourful, you can really feel the passion that went into designing the characters and the environment. i'm not much of a rhythm game player, but i've been having a really great time playing this :) and the music is really diverse! it's nice to listen to new genres, compared to the usual stuff you hear in these types of games. i'm so excited to try out the recipes too!
