Gold standard: There is a demo. Try it before you buy it.
I enjoyed Dex enough to 100% the achievements. It has a good cyberpunk storyline. The characters were interesting. I don't want to spoil its corporate/moral/story plot twists, but everything felt like it was revealed at a good pace.
It is definitely worth investing in some combat skills. The game doesn't pull punches if you prepare yourself as a supersleuth and get into a gang fight, you will get murdered. I found that you were prepared for everything by endgame.

Great characters whose fates I became deeply invested in, Hacking mechanics are unforgiving in the first 1/3rd of the game, but with the upgrades it gets significantly easier, but sadly not any more fun. The story may be standard fare, but the fantastic, varied and slower paced voice acting really immerses and connects you to the world despite the simpler 2d graphics. The use of animated character portraits during the ample dialogue was a great touch and well executed.
But the best part, and the reason I couldn't stop playing despite really frustrating aspects of early gameplay, was how HUMAN everything and everyone felt. Characters felt real, with attitudes informed by their past and motives arising from hope, a sense of justice, or just blind, disenchanted self-preservation. Environmental art hinted at the stories and hopes of each location Dex visited. They really accomplished something great here, and I'm looking forward to a larger RPG-like title from the studio.

What a gem!
I've been looking for a CyberPunk game with a great story for a while now. Loved Deus EX: MD, Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Satellite Reign.
This game has an amazing story, the world is filled with great characters, good visuals and sound. Combat is lackluster (seems too hard at first, but becomes too easy when you understand the mechanics), but I don't care too much about that.
Loved it! If you are on the fence try the demo!

100% Achievement Review
This game was great. It is a cyberpunk metroidvania with branching pathways in the story. Many of the side quests also have multiple ways to complete the quests. There are normal stat points that you can distribute in lockpicking, hacking, melee, ranged and others, and also you can buy augments to do various effects like have you be immune to poison or electric damage, increase your melee, or jump really high (this is practically essential). There is also a hacking minigame unlike other hacking minigames, because the game actually becomes like a twin stick space shooter as you 'hack' your way through cyberspace. All of the dialogue is fully voice acted too, which for a game from such a small dev is a pretty nice thing.
The achievements can all be completed in a single playthrough, but a great deal of them are missable, so I recommend following a guide. Some side quests have achievements for following a specific path to completion as well. I wound up missing two on my first playthrough and had to play through half the game again to get one of the ones I missed.

A game made with love and clearly hard work. 10/10
recommended, especially if its on sale.

Excellent 90's style side scrolling pixel graphics RPG. This game is awesome and reminds me a lot of the Shadowrun series on Sega Gen and SNES. Great story, beautiful pixel graphics, and game play. A must play if you like cyberpunk settings and 90's style pixel games. A+
