Having achieved great success and wealth, Benjamin was ready to retire from investigations, but Ralph wanted to do one last job together: Lansinet Castle.
They knew it was infamously host to hundreds of trapped souls, and anyone who dared venture inside never returned. Nevertheless, they bravely sought out to find the truth and help release the spirits. Before they were able to complete their quest, Ralph was mysteriously killed, his soul trapped in the castle. Benjamin managed to escape with his life, but could hardly remember any details of the night. This troubled him to no end. He vowed to quit paranormal investigation for good.
Years later Benjamin suddenly felt Ralph’s spirit calling out to him from the castle. He was still there, enduring endless agony. Benjamin reluctantly returns to the castle in search of Ralph’s soul so he can finally put this memory to rest. Can Benjamin manage to survive the castle and unravel its many mysteries? Or will he fall victim like so many before him? There’s only one way to find out: head inside.

🤔Overall Impressions🤔
Delusions of a Lost Soul is reasonably entertaining. It looks retro and has a spooky undercurrent flowing through the story. Puzzles are a bit too easy, but the game feels well-presented and at its price point you can’t go too wrong.
📕Story📕
The game kept me entertained for just over the hour it lasted, but I wouldn’t say it particularly excelled in any area. The story was the highlight, and although not feeling particularly original, it was well presented and mysterious. There are a few chilling moments that are more psychological than visual, and there is certainly a mood of uneasiness, but my heart rate didn’t elevate at any point and it’s all quite mild, but good fun. There are a few notes lying around which you can read that give a bit of back story or add some intrigue to proceedings, but they’re very brief and a little shallow.
🧩Puzzles🧩
Looking for your partner involves searching the castle and solving puzzles to progress. The puzzles were extremely easy in the main. I did have a little trouble with the first puzzle, but that’s not because it was hard, it was because it wasn’t obvious what order the solution had to be placed in, but after trial and error I was successful.
Other puzzles are pretty straightforward, and aren’t particularly original or imaginative. Pulling switches in a certain order, locating puzzle pieces to place in a grid, using your torch to reveal hidden paths are all puzzle elements I have seen before and they didn’t offer any challenge. There’s no jeopardy with any of the puzzles; Although you can die within the castle, you are never penalized for this, and can just start the puzzle again.
The inventory is quite awkward to operate using a controller, as it is very loose and I found it difficult to center on the item I wanted, so I would recommend using mouse and keyboard, or use the mouse to interact with any items and use the gamepad to control the character.
📺Visuals and Sound 🎵
The game looks and sounds great, with its wonderful use of pixel graphics, and atmospheric sounds. Fog-soaked environments and blood trails in the dungeon create an effectively spooky feeling, and there were moments of slight trepidation, but nothing too frightening. Frequent use of the torch can obscure your view and stimulate the imagination, but it’s never too dark to see. The torch was a little fiddly to use.
It's quite easy to get 100% achievements on this game without a guide, but there is one you can miss if you don't explore enough.
🍳Conclusion🍳
It’s difficult to say too much about Delusions of a Lost Soul because it is a very short journey at just over an hour, but if you’re looking for some entertainment for an evening, and enjoy a slight horror vibe, then it’s a good option, especially at its reasonable price point.
Puzzle elements won’t challenge however, so don’t expect to be tested, but just enjoy the story and the atmospheric graphics, sound and ambience. I’m wondering whether this was would be a good option for a PG market, as I’m sure children or teenagers might find this a little more frightening than an adult.

Loved the atmosphere, the puzzles and the story. I am not generally a huge fan of creepy games, but I really enjoyed this one.
I would love to see a prequel in which we get to know our partner even more and learn more about this world.

Some of the most creative levels and unique puzzle interactions I've ever seen in a 2d horror game! Each piece of dialog and scattered note in combination with the enchanting pixel art builds up a woven world filled with a story of mystery, fear, and anticipation.
If you're a fan of Amnesia, you're going to love Delusions of a Lost Soul. Masterfully made. 10/10 would play again.

Delusions of a Lost Soul may leave you scratching your head like it did me. You surely were first struck by the beautiful pixel graphics and thought about your childhood days of sitting in front of your Tube TV playing your favorite games. Then you looked at the tags for it and saw: Puzzle, Adventure, Horror, Mystery and Story Rich; now you’re nodding your head thinking, yeah this is my sort of jam. Finally, you scrolled down and saw the price; leaving you wondering how? Why?
Most of the time when people see a pixel graphics game, under $5 and with those tags they just keep scrolling past because they don’t think it’ll be worth their time, it won’t be any good and it will be a waste of money. None of those things are true about Delusions of a Lost Souls. The story keeps pushing you forward, the music keeps you on edge and the environments keep you suspicious/paranoid. Though the gameplay is little over an hour, this mini masterpiece will leave you well satisfied with the amount you put in to it.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who is reading this, listening to this or having my brains waves reach them. I look forward to more games from this Developer/Publisher and believe they have a bright future ahead of them.
