This is a somewhat qualified recommendation. The artstyle and sound are nice and hearken back to the golden age of point and click games, and there is a streak of humour running through the whole game that is good. Unfortunately there are some quality control issues with the spelling in dialogues and some backgrounds "tearing" in places but the main negative is that it also suffers from the curse of classic point and click games in that there are several illogical and plain unfair puzzles standing in the way of a good time.
A good puzzle should have a logical if challenging solution and make you pleased that you finally solved it and it makes sense, or even if you eventually resort to a walkthrough, it should make you kick yourself for not getting it.
A bad puzzle is one where you either brute force the solution by trying everything with everything else, or you look up the answer and think "Now, how the bloody hell was I supposed to know that?"
There are a few too many of the latter here. One major offender involves finding the name of a pet for example.
On the whole though the game is enjoyable enough.

Darkestville Castle is a surprisingly good Point and Click Adventure game with good visuals and quite a funny narrative. It reminds me strongly of the Sierra Adventure games back in the 90's. The characters are memorable and the voice acting is great. Even though the game doesn't have a lot of areas, it will still take a good 6 to 7 hours to complete the game.
I got all 44 achievements on my first walkthrough. I believe most of them are unmissable but I had to keep referring to the achievement list during gameplay to make sure I wasn't missing any. If you exhaust all dialogue and interact with all objects, you will get all achievements guaranteed.
There is a hint option but it doesn't actually tell you what to do next but rather just shows you what object can be interacted with in the current area. I admit that I had to consult the walkthrough a few times as some parts were genuinely difficult to figure out.
Overall a good adventure game and I would give it a 7.5/10.

Very solid and fun adventure game. It is funny, not too hard, not too easy. Maybe the art is a bit on the cheap side, but very enjoyable anyways.
