In my opinion Prepare to Die Edition is the best way to experience the magic of the original Dark Souls. I can't recommend this game enough!

Who is this review even for if you can't buy this version anymore? Anyway, bought this in 2012, started and stopped like 3 times, finally finished it in 2022. Hated a lot of it, but in a way that kept me going and motivated. It's a good experience and a fantastic video game. Glad I stuck with it.

Dark Souls is not some trancendent masterpiece, it's not a rite of passage, nor is it a gateway to enlightment. What Dark Souls is, is a flawed, challenging game that rewards perseverance and curiosity above all. You don't have to be particularly mechanically skilled or gifted with godlike reflexes to get through it. You have to be willing to make mistakes and try again, because it's only game over when you give up trying.
