The Beginning, Cthulhu Saves The World...).

If ye never played Phantasy Star II and IV as well as Chrono Trigger, scram.
Clearly, 'tis a love letter to those games, from the artstyle, the 4-people party walking in a row, the green alien cats that are obviously Musk cats (like Myau in Phantasy Star, the Musk cats of Phantays Star 2, and "The Old Man" and his progen y deep in a cave in Phantasy Star IV)
Bloody Hell, the MAIN CHARACTER is called Alyssa L'Salle, which is a reference to Alis (Alisa in JP) Landale of the original PS game on SMS.
There are lotsa references to older 16-bits JRPG and the battle style as well as the mechs looks alot like in Chrono Trigger.
First mission with those mechs that combine had vibes from Chrono Trigger future era in those abandoned factories.
There's even a festival that looks like the one in Chrono Trigger, I was half expecting a teleport that backfires. And as in every game of that developper, there IS Cthulhu.
For Pete's sake, play that game if you miss those good old 16-bits times. Sure, it's not very long. Sure, the battle system is pretty simple and those shields and accesories don't always make much sense.
Who cares? Back in me days when ye get new stuff that meant it was automatically better than what ye had, so ye equipped it.
Is it fan service? Yes, it is! Since whe is it bad as long as it was made with good intents? And I've played every games of that developper except that magical girl thingy, which is next on me list. And they're all about good intents.
I don't know if they even exist anymore, their website's a wreck, no new project was announced and their last game was 2 years ago.
Who cares? NOT ME. It's 2.99€. I pay MORE just to get a big bag of fries. It's a steal.
