In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity. Wandering aimlessly in search of blood, the Lost will stop at nothing to satisfy their hunger. Team up and embark on a journey to the ends of hell to unlock your past and escape your living nightmare in CODE VEIN.

Did you ever:
- wake up dead thanks to the miracle of a certain parasitic organism, which got jammed in your chest by a friendly surgeon?
- wear a gas mask every time you went out?
- fight a pole-dancing, waterbending, pigtails wearing lady?
- eat blood-red stones to learn new things?
- take a literal stroll through someone’s physically manifested memory lane?
If yes, then golly gosh, stop ingesting those strange, pulsating mushrooms you gather from the walls of your basement dwelling! Then and only then, you can play CODE VEIN.
On a more serious note:
Code Vein (I refuse to keep using caps) is often called “anime-souls” and that is a pretty accurate statement...if you take quality out of the count. The game is simply too mediocre to be compared to From’s epic series.
The graphics are heavily stylised, so if you don’t like anime, they’ll make you chew your eyeballs out. You’ll use comically big weapons, while wearing a Victorian suit and an edgy gas-mask. The characters look like someone’s OC. That being said, I am an anime enjoyer so it did not bother me too much. Well, I might have been irritated by the fact that most female characters wear clothes so destroyed, they only hold on thanks to the power of believing in their friends. As an older gamer, I felt a constant urge to give them some of the clothing I looted during my adventures and be like: “Here child, you don’t have to be cold any more”. The locations are, unfortunately, dull and boring. You walk through grey, ruined cities, mountains and deserts, not much more.
The mechanics are nice. You can swap builds on the fly, which leaves a lot of place for experimentation. Fights seem much more abilities usage heavy, with most of the skills and buffs being effective and easy to utilise. Code Vein also has some of the most useful companions I’ve encountered. They deal a lot of damage, can resurrect you, provide buffs etc. The weapons are various enough. That being said, the armour system seems to be underutilised – I didn’t really feel much difference between wearing a low level T-Shirt and endgame full plate.
The thing that I disliked the most was the level design. Many locations are needlessly complicated with multiple branching pathways, platforms, environmental threats etc. I got lost multiple times and looking for items needed for the “good ending” was a real chore. It felt like the game did not respect my time.
Also, I’d suggest not to 100% Code Vein if you don’t have a friend to play with. There is an achievement, which requires you to farm tokens gained when you help others. I was however, unable to find any companions, so I was forced to grind a single monster for like 5 hours. I only made it because I was sick, and my brain could not handle more complicated tasks for like 2 days. After getting it never wanna play this game again.
For me, Code Vein is a 6/10 game. Try it out if you like anime, vampires and souls-likes.

Bardzo dobry tytuł. Nie spodziewałem się, że ta gierka aż tak mnie pochłonie. Pełnoprawne, dynamiczne soulsy w stylu chińskich bajek. Design lokacji i cała szata graficzna- pierwsza klasa i słowo "pierwsza" należy tutaj podkreślić podwójną linią.
