Hell is other circles.
The world is a pretty messed up place isn’t it? Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could simplify your existence, reduce your dimensions as it were, and see life from a new perspective? Unfortunately, you are not alone in this new world. So if you’re destined to spend time in your own circly hell, then why not try to clean it up while you’re there?
- Non-stop shooter action!
- No, literally…it goes on forever!
- The end only comes when you either die or stop playing… in other words a perfect simulation of real life!
- A leaderboard so you can brag about how much mental anguish you can take to your friends!
About the game
I hope someone, somewhere finds enjoyment from my very first foray into games development. Circles of Hell started out as a dare to create a game using only a single art asset and after a week’s development time and approximately 54 liters of energy drink, here we are. It wasn’t exactly a labor of love but it is laboriously fun to play.
Thanks for taking a look!

Overall, this is a very great game. I love the minimalist approach to a shooting/evasion game. The randomness of each danger's occurrence greatly contributes to the theme of being totally powerless in a sea of threats. It constantly keeps you on your toes and makes each run unique. I also like the boss events, as they were a cool and unexpected addition which I think adds a lot to the total value of the game.
Just a few minor criticisms:
• I think the inputs should be on the press rather than the release (dumb complaint, I know). When dashing, it can sometimes be hard to time because I would expect the dash to happen on the press of the key.
• I feel like the boss events were a little too easy. Once you learn their attack pattern, they become much easier than the waves themselves. If the bosses were made a little harder, it would add a greater sense of climax. Right now, the normal yellow circles are probably the biggest threat.
• Lastly, the game is not full of bugs, but there are a few I noticed. Besides crashes, I was actually rendered completely invincible on one attempt.
tl;dr 9/10 Very fun shooting game, lots of death and retrying. Well worth the $0.99 cost.

Weird, but cool I guess. I wish the sardonic attitude portrayed here on the Steam page came across in the actual game. All we get is a bit of Sartre and the occasional quote about hell or something.
