- Broken Armor is an arcade style action game where you navigate your way through rooms full of traps and creatures to reach the exit. Your weapons are limited so you have to decide whether it’s worth it or not to use them. High scores are recorded to a leaderboard.
Story:
- This is the story of an inept knight who wears a suit of plate armor that isn’t quite up to the task. Unfortunately, he is usually too busy fending off pests to worry about actual combat.
Features:
- Classic style graphics and game play like something you’d see on a 5.25″ floppy disk.
- Many floors filled with vermin, hazards, and bosses to stumble your way through.
- Different every time you play.
- Fast paced and unforgiving. Improve yourself with each attempt.
- Includes the playable mage DLC.

why knight always throw its weapon instead of using it like an actual fighter? dose he also have a broken brain?
broken armor is a short game that a knight must find a holy grail at bottom of a dungeon. he will face many enemies and bosses and you player shall aid him.
and thats it. there is no twist no deep story. nothing.
the music has a retro vibe to it . its simple and forgetable but is still enjoyable.
the graphic and scenery is ...... its like an arcade game , so its cool? yeah have fun with it. its not beautiful but its not ugly either. its just so basic and uninspired.
the gameplay is also so basic just move around gather weapon and throw it. gather coin for buy more throwable weapon or health. the bosses are not unique in designs and the patterns are so yet again its basic.
its an ok game that you can full achieve it under 2 hour. its easy and everyone can do it.
IN CONCLOUSION:
broken armor is like a bland food. its not a bad food , you can eat it. or maybe even enjoy it if you are too hungry. but its bland and forgetable. yet it will fill your desires for a short period of time like an snack. i recommend this game becuse its really cheap and dosent have anything bad about it. but it dosent have anything good too.
4/10
why broken armor though? thats one of the dumbest name i had ever heard for a game

Broken Armor is a top-down 2D action game developed by Jonathan Tindell and published by Wastebasket Games that deliberately embraces the spirit of early arcade and home-computer titles. Rather than attempting to modernize its structure with sprawling systems or cinematic storytelling, it commits fully to a retro philosophy centered on challenge, repetition, and mechanical simplicity. The premise follows a disgraced knight cast out from his homeland and sent on a quest to retrieve a sacred relic in hopes of reclaiming his honor. The narrative functions primarily as a framing device, giving players a reason to descend into dangerous halls filled with monsters and hazards, but the real emphasis lies in moment-to-moment survival and score-driven progression.
From a visual standpoint, Broken Armor wears its nostalgia proudly. The pixel-art style intentionally mirrors the limitations of older systems, evoking the look and feel of early computer and arcade games. The environments are composed of compact rooms connected in dungeon-like sequences, each populated with enemies, traps, and environmental obstacles. The aesthetic is simple, yet cohesive, reinforcing the game’s old-school identity. This stripped-down presentation may not appeal to players seeking elaborate visuals, but it complements the gameplay’s focus on clarity and responsiveness. Every sprite, projectile, and hazard is easily readable, which becomes essential during intense encounters.
Gameplay revolves around navigating procedurally assembled floors while battling waves of enemies that range from basic creatures to more dangerous foes with unique attack patterns. The top-down perspective encourages careful positioning and constant movement, as enemies often swarm from multiple directions. Combat mechanics are straightforward, typically involving ranged attacks and dodging rather than complex combo systems. However, the simplicity does not equate to ease. The game is deliberately unforgiving, and careless mistakes can quickly result in defeat. This emphasis on challenge creates a loop of learning and mastery, where each failed attempt provides insight into enemy behavior and optimal positioning strategies.
Resource management adds another layer of tension. Weapons and items are limited, and players must decide when to engage aggressively and when to conserve supplies. Environmental hazards such as pools that slow movement or inflict damage increase the stakes of each encounter, forcing players to remain aware of their surroundings. Boss battles punctuate progression through the dungeon floors, presenting larger threats with distinct patterns that require observation and patience to overcome. These encounters serve as skill checks, rewarding players who have internalized the game’s core mechanics.
Replayability is a central pillar of Broken Armor’s design. Because the dungeon layouts and enemy placements are randomized, each run feels slightly different. The inclusion of leaderboards and achievements encourages competitive play and personal improvement. Additionally, the availability of alternative playable characters, such as a mage introduced through additional content, expands strategic possibilities. Each character offers subtle variations in combat style, giving players incentive to experiment and refine different approaches to the game’s challenges.
Community reception reflects the game’s niche appeal. Many players appreciate its dedication to old-school design principles, praising its difficulty curve and the satisfaction that comes from gradual mastery. Fans of retro-inspired titles often find its simplicity refreshing in an era dominated by sprawling, system-heavy releases. On the other hand, some players view its mechanics as overly basic and its presentation as too minimalistic by modern standards. For those accustomed to highly polished and feature-rich indie titles, Broken Armor may feel austere or limited.
Ultimately, Broken Armor succeeds on its own terms. It does not attempt to reinvent the action genre or compete with larger productions. Instead, it delivers a focused, challenging experience that captures the essence of early arcade design. Its blend of procedural dungeons, tight combat, and high difficulty creates a loop that rewards persistence and skill development. For players who appreciate retro aesthetics and uncompromising challenge, Broken Armor offers a concise yet engaging adventure that proves simplicity, when paired with thoughtful design, can remain compelling long after the era it draws inspiration from has passed.

Simplistic fun and the achievements are a joy to complete. The only problem with the game is that you can get instakilled if you happen to walk into an enemy and move the way it's moving (There's no recovery time from damage or rebound). If you can get past that, there's a good learning curve and the usual action game fun of memorizing boss patterns and coming up with unique strategies.

There is not rlly much to change on the settings which is quite frustrating despite that this game is only playable with controler or otherwise you just have to use the arrow keys
other than that a great game

It's fun, it's cheap, but the damage system feels awful, there is no knockback or cooldown when taking damage but atleast all the enemies die in one hit.

You know someone gave me this game as one of those $10 random steam key deals. and I think this is the only good game I've ever gotten out of those.
