Blood Radiant
Blood Radiant is a lovecraftian soulslike action-RPG. Explore a mythical island at the intersection of many space-times while you find weapons, battle eldritch abominations, uncover secrets, and talk to NPCs in a dark quest to achieve ultimate power.
The island is populated by strange creatures from other realms. They seem to be intent on killing you. Combat is difficult and requires precision. You’ll need to circle the enemy and dodge roll out of harms way as you manage your stamina carefully.
At the end of each level, you will be faced with a boss battle that will test both your wits and skill. A boss might seem impossible at first, but with careful observation and discipline, the bosses will fall to your sword.
Humans also live on the island, and they harbor many dark secrets. Speak with the locals to uncover dark knowledge about humanity’s true place in the cosmos. But remember that some say ignorance is bliss!
Treasure boxes placed around the island provide weapons, items, and power ups. But beware — the contents of these boxes changes with each playthrough. Killing enemies provides Radiance, which allows you to upgrade your characters’s strength, stamina, or health. The game is loopable with NewGame+, but you’ll need to play carefully to advance because if you run out of lives, permadeath kicks in and you have to go back to the beginning of the game.
- 15 weapons with different pros and cons

Blood Radiant is awesome!
First things first: You don’t play this game for the gameplay. It’s serviceable and works okayish. Where the game really shines is in its take on H. P. Lovecraft and all the hidden things you can find.
I fell in love with the style right away. The whole thing has a vibe that reminds me of grainy promo screenshots in a gaming magazine from the ’90s. The way the voice acting was edited, combined with a well-chosen soundtrack, is a lot of fun.
The story is written in a way that gives you a general understanding of what’s happening and what it’s all about, but there are plenty of mysteries that let you interpret and puzzle things out.
And once you’ve beaten the game, you can play through it again and discover new NPCs, new bosses, and new endings. You start experimenting with different choices and uncover new content. The good thing is, the first playthrough is really hard, but afterward, in NG+, you’re strong enough to take on more challenges.
If you can overlook a somewhat basic combat system, you’ll get a really fun game here for a small price.
