Blood Job is a narrative-driven visual novel developed and published by Kinetic Novels that leans fully into its supernatural premise and adult tone to deliver a story focused on transformation, responsibility, and the absurdity of power thrust upon an unprepared individual. Rather than easing the player into its world, the game opens with a sharp narrative hook: an ordinary life is abruptly derailed by a bizarre chain of events that results in the protagonist becoming a vampire and, through sheer misunderstanding, inheriting a position of authority within the city’s supernatural hierarchy. This sudden elevation sets the stage for a story that balances humor, danger, and introspection in equal measure.
At the heart of Blood Job is its story, which unfolds primarily through dialogue, character interactions, and internal monologue. The narrative places strong emphasis on the psychological impact of becoming something fundamentally inhuman while still clinging to traces of a former life. As the new vampire leader, the protagonist must learn not only the mechanics of survival—combat, feeding, and control—but also how to navigate relationships with allies, rivals, and mentors who each have their own expectations and agendas. The presence of multiple vampire instructors provides structure to this journey, allowing the story to explore different philosophies of power, restraint, and identity through contrasting personalities.
The game’s tone is a defining feature. Blood Job frequently oscillates between dark comedy and serious reflection, using humor to undercut the grimness of vampire lore without trivializing it entirely. Awkward situations, sharp banter, and ironic twists are used to highlight the absurdity of the protagonist’s situation, while quieter moments delve into themes of loneliness, responsibility, and the cost of authority. This tonal balance helps the story feel dynamic and human, even as it deals with supernatural concepts and adult subject matter.
As a visual novel, gameplay interaction is intentionally limited. Player engagement comes primarily from reading, making occasional dialogue choices, and observing how relationships develop over time. These choices tend to influence tone, character reactions, and the flavor of certain scenes rather than radically altering the overarching narrative. This gives Blood Job a relatively linear structure, allowing the developers to maintain tight control over pacing and thematic consistency. While this limits replayability for players seeking branching storylines, it strengthens the cohesiveness of the narrative and ensures that emotional beats land as intended.
Visually, Blood Job relies on polished 2D character art and moody backgrounds to convey atmosphere and emotion. Character designs emphasize expression and posture, which is crucial in a story where much of the tension arises from conversation rather than action. The art direction supports the adult and supernatural themes without becoming gratuitous, integrating mature content into the narrative rather than presenting it as disconnected fan service. The overall presentation is clean and focused, reinforcing the game’s identity as an interactive novel rather than a mechanically complex game.
Pacing is steady and deliberate, prioritizing character development over spectacle. Scenes are allowed to unfold gradually, with dialogue often carrying more weight than plot twists or sudden events. For fans of story-heavy visual novels, this approach can be immersive and rewarding, as it encourages investment in the characters and their evolving dynamics. Players looking for frequent gameplay challenges or rapid escalation may find the experience slower, but the game remains consistent in its storytelling goals.
Reception to Blood Job reflects its niche appeal. Players who enjoy adult visual novels with strong character focus and supernatural themes often praise its writing, humor, and cohesive narrative vision. Others note that its limited interactivity and linear structure may not satisfy those seeking deeper gameplay systems or extensive branching paths. The game does not attempt to broaden its reach beyond its intended audience, instead committing fully to delivering a focused narrative experience.
Ultimately, Blood Job succeeds as a character-driven supernatural visual novel that knows exactly what it wants to be. Its strength lies in its writing, tone, and ability to blend humor with darker themes of power and identity. While it offers little in the way of mechanical depth, it provides a polished and engaging story for players who value narrative immersion over gameplay complexity. For fans of adult-themed visual novels and supernatural drama, it stands as a confident and cohesive experience that leaves a distinct impression.

A nice game that took me 2 hours to open all paths. The graphics are well done, and so are the animations. The story is also well done. Choices do matter in the this avn. And yes there are a few spelling mistakes, but that really doesn't take away from the game. I do wish the one scene had another path other then saving the vampire on the cross. Also Other positions could have been done with the one in the basement. Finally i do with the dev makes another game, and hopefully longer, or even in this world of vampires. I did play this game offline, so my total play time might not be accurate.

Blood Job — Played: 0.4h | Achievements: 13/13 | Steam Deck: Not Supported
TL;DR: Funny title, surprisingly solid vampire VN with mature scenes and an actually engaging setup (turned by accident, choose your fate). Very short right now (13/13 in 26 min) and still Early Access, so it’s overpriced at ~8€. Recommended only on a big sale.
First thing: the name got me. Blood Job is such a stupidly perfect vampire pun that I bought it almost on impulse, and yeah… it works. You know exactly what you’re signing up for: vampires, blood, and the “job” part being a wink at what the game is really about.
It’s a mature visual novel with a nice little premise: you play a guy who gets turned into a vampire by accident, and now he has to figure out what he’s going to become. Not a huge epic story, not a 20-hour branching monster, but the core idea is genuinely fun, and it feels a bit more original than the usual “random horny VN with no plot”.
The writing is decent, the vibe is good, and the character art is solid. It also has something I always appreciate in this niche: a gallery / replay system that remembers what you unlocked, so you can come back later and rewatch scenes without redoing the whole thing. For collectors and “voyeurs”, that’s a real plus.
Now the downside: it’s short. Very short. I unlocked 13/13 achievements in 26 minutes. And it’s Early Access (at least at the time I played), so paying around 8€ right now is too much. This is a “good concept” that needs either more content or a lower price to feel fair.
So yes, I recommend it… but only with a big discount.

Final verdict: Blood Job is a funny pun title backed by a genuinely solid vampire VN concept, good art, and a proper gallery system. The only real problem is value: it’s very short right now and feels overpriced at ~8€, especially in Early Access. Grab it on a big sale and it’s a nice little mature VN snack.
