In Sons of the Forest, a lot of new content has been added, including solar panels that allow you to light up your camp in the dark. This guide will tell you where to find them and how to use them.
How to find solar panels in Sons of the Forest
Players can find solar panels in bunkers, dungeons, and yellow crates that occasionally appear in the open world. All the dungeons where we found these devices during the storyline campaign can be found on the map.
A player can carry up to three solar panels in their inventory at once. If you're interested in obtaining additional solar panels, you can ask a friend to help you. Save near the solar panel spawn point, collect all the necessary items, and then load the save. This will allow you to get another set of panels that you can bring to your camp.
Solar panels in the inventory are located in the top right corner, next to other items such as ropes, tarps, and hooks.
How to use solar panels
To use solar panels, you can find a hint in the "Electricity Basics" section of your guidebook. Although players can install panels on any suitable surface, it is recommended to place them on building roofs to make it easier to lay wires and light up the desired objects.
To start using solar panels, you will also need LED bulbs and wire. You can learn more about these resources in the next section.
Where to find bulbs and wire
To find bulbs and wire, look for them in plastic containers with yellow lids, bunkers, abandoned camps, and hideouts. Usually, you'll be able to find several bulbs and spools of wire nearby where you found the solar panels.
How to connect bulbs to solar panels and run electric wire
To install a solar panel on a ramp, you will need two vertical logs and two diagonal logs. Then you need to place boards between them.
After that, install the solar panel on the ramp.
All that's left is to lay the wires along the logs and connect the bulb. Note that wires can only be attached to whole logs.
When running a wire from the solar panel to the bulb, it's important to attach it to one of the logs to which the panel wire is also connected.
As mentioned earlier, it's recommended to install solar panels on the roofs of your buildings. This will allow you to lay wires to any location in the camp and light it up in the dark.
