Solafite is an innovative type of ore introduced in Sons of the Forest. This resource was added in the latest update, along with a pickaxe required for its extraction. Solafite is utilized for enhancing weapons and can be found in various locations across the island. However, as it is the first mineable resource in the game, players might be wondering where to locate it. If you're ready to get started, here is information on where to find Solafite and how to mine this new resource.
Where to Find Solafite
As Solafite is a mineable resource, your first step is to head to a new cave on the east side of the island to obtain the pickaxe. Fortunately, you'll discover a Solafite vein at the same time – the pickaxe is literally stuck in it – putting you on the right track. Now that you know what it looks like, you'll be able to recognize it easily.
This new resource can only be found in caves and doesn't spawn around rocks on the surface at all. Luckily, there are plenty of caves to explore on the island, and, at least at the time of writing, the ore seems to respawn after saving and reloading the game.
While I won't attempt to list every Solafite deposit, here are a couple of locations to help you get started:
- In the new cave, after grabbing the pickaxe, backtrack through the underwater tunnel until you reach the part with the broken wooden fence. Climb out, and instead of re-entering the large cave beyond, look to your left, and you'll see a shallow tunnel with a Solafite deposit on the wall.
- You can find a couple of Solafite deposits in the cave where you find the rope gun, on the west side of the island. Head down the tunnel until you reach the large cavern, and you'll find two deposits on the wall there.
During mining, you'll notice that ore pieces are automatically added to your inventory, but don't forget to pick up what's dropped onto the ground too!
Weapon Upgrade with Solafite
To construct a Solafite Upgrader, players must first discover its blueprint, located in a cavern just southwest of the Golf Course. Although expensive to create, the Upgrader allows the player to upgrade most of their weapons to their Solafite variant.
To do so, hold the desired weapon and place it on the hanging rack of the machine. Then, place six pieces of Solafite ore into the vat to initiate the process.
Once the process begins, lightning strikes will hit the machine as the weather changes to rain. The Solafite will gradually melt, coating the weapon over the next 2 minutes and 30 seconds. However, during a Solafite upgrade, a wave of creatures, including Puffies, Fingers, and Twins, will be summoned to attack the player. Therefore, precautions should be taken before using the Upgrader.
Upon completion of the process, the weather will slowly return to its previous state, and the upgraded weapon can be retrieved. Solafite weapons will obtain an additional damage bonus (approximately +30%).
