In the game Sons of the Forest, developers have introduced a variety of armor types, but one of them surpasses the rest. Ancient Armor, formerly known as Golden Armor, not only provides a higher level of protection than other options but is also a necessary element for successfully completing the game.
However, finding the Ancient Armor poses a challenge even for experienced players. It is located at a significant depth within the largest cave system in the game — the Cultist Cave, also known as Cave D7.
Preparing for the Journey
Navigating this extensive cave system comes with certain difficulties, primarily the necessity of possessing a Rebreather before attempting to venture inside. The system has two entrances located on either side of the mountain in the center of the map, converging in the middle and directing players forward. Thus, venturing too far inside without proper preparation means the player cannot return without traversing the entire system.
For those seeking to find the Cultist Cave, there are two entry points — from the western and eastern sides of the mountain. Despite the option to choose either, it is recommended to use the western entrance as it provides a more direct route into the cave.
Preparing for entry into the cave involves setting up a Tarp Tent and saving the game to ensure safety in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Navigating to the Armor
Despite the challenging navigation within the cave, the guiding principle is to keep moving forward. The linear path simplifies orientation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining direction and continuing forward movement.
When equipped with the Rebreather, it is advisable to do so in advance, considering the possibility of unexpectedly entering deep water. While traversing the cave, players should descend into the water and search for tunnels to continue their journey. In the event of encountering obstacles such as holes in the ground, players should look for ropes to avoid fall damage.
At the end of the path, players will encounter a large cavern with a crashed spaceship at its center, surrounded by enemies. Breaking through the wooden barrier at the back of the spaceship, players will discover a pilot wearing the Ancient Armor, along with a large artifact fragment in their hand.
After completing the mission, players must find a way to exit the cave. To do so, they should return to the back of the spaceship, turn left, and begin ascending the slope. Overcoming all challenges and obstacles, players will eventually find the exit of the cave and emerge into the fresh air once again.
Possession of the Ancient Armor opens up numerous possibilities for players and allows them to decide on their next actions — whether to leave the island or stay. Ultimately, the choice lies with the player, based on their strategy and preferences.
