During Baldur's Gate 3 gameplay, players encounter numerous secondary characters who come and go throughout the game. However, with skillful gameplay, it's possible to persuade some of them to join your camp. This decision significantly impacts the course of the campaign and the game's future storyline. One of the standout characters who can prove to be incredibly useful is a gnome named Barkus Vrut.
Where to Find Barkus Vrut
Barkus Vrut first appears in the western part of the Infected Village, surrounded by a group of goblins who mock the gnome and watch him circle a large windmill. You'll need to decide whether to eliminate the goblins or persuade them to return to their camp.
How to Save Barkus Vrut
After the windmill stops, approach Barkus and free him. Initially, he will be cautious, fearing that you'll try to take advantage of him. However, after a brief conversation, the gnome will leave the area.
Barkus will reappear later in the second act when you find yourself near the Girge Ford, close to a cave where he is one of the gnomes held captive by cultists. You'll need to fight the cultists to help Barkus.
How to Convince Barkus Vrut to Join Your Camp:
After meeting Barkus in Girge Ford, you'll have the opportunity to persuade the gnome to join your camp. He may initially refuse, but it's worth continuing the conversation. This is your only chance to convince Barkus to join. Despite not becoming a full-fledged member of your group, he'll remain in your camp and provide significant assistance.
Barkus will express his opinions on events related to the Ironfist and Gortash. Regardless of your decision, he will help resolve the conflict between the two sides, leading to one of the game's best endings.
