BLADE CHIMERA
When the past catches up to you in various forms, desolation becomes strength.
You play as Shin, a Demon Hunter who has lost his memories and is now exploring the world together with his sword—the transformed Lumina demon Lux—recollecting memories about yourself, your missing wife, and skills you’ve forgotten.
Each time you recollect a lost skill, Lux changes form according to the will of her wielder, making Shin stronger and granting access to more areas of the world.
The Story
The game takes place in the near future, where warped monsters and ghouls have appeared from nowhere, swarming cities and forcing humans to battle against these creatures they’ve termed “demons” in an all-out Demon War. After 30 merciless years of war, the surviving humans have banded together under the Missa Association, a religious group formed by a leader who knows the secret to fighting the demons. Cities and civilizations continue to thrive despite the now regular sightings of bizarre monsters.
Three years ago, a man known as Shin was rescued from among the rubble in a cryopreserved state. With no recollection of his past, he quickly becomes one of the association’s best warriors and protectors.
However, when Shin comes across the brilliantly beautiful demon named Lux, she feels strangely familiar. This sensation of deja vu leads him to take her in, even if it means going against the creeds of the association.
From that very instant, the past begins to slowly unfold, revealing the events that caused the city to take on its current form…
What’s special about this game
In this exploration-heavy 2D action game, you will use your demon blade to interfere with the past, create new platforms, and shield yourself from danger to explore a desolate world.
Other than the Lumina Sword, you will also have access to other weapons such as swift daggers and long-range guns. Find the perfect weapons to suit your fighting style.
The whole game is depicted in Team Ladybug’s critically acclaimed gorgeously animated pixel art, in which each and every frame is painstakingly detailed. Feast your eyes on the harsh yet beautiful dystopian cyberpunk world.

Was will man mehr?

Finally, a Metroidvania that truly lives up to its name. Not one of those typical Soulslikes or Roguelikes. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys these types of games.
The controls are fluid and well-designed, the exploration is fun, and the bosses are varied.
What more could you want?

Blade Chimera is a positive surprise within the metroidvania genre. It's overall good and nearly flawless in terms of control, functions and general gameplay. Standard button assignment wasn't really my thing and the option to reassign control buttons made me happy. Thumbs up on that. Not every game allows it. The soundtrack deserves an extra compliment. Many tracks are catchy. The only sound that wasn't so great, was the gunfire "Pff!". I'd rather hear a "Pew!" but that's just my taste for shotgun sound. It fits to the "water pistol" though...
All along the way of exploration comes an interesting story that matches the cyberpunk style. Ladybug's other platformer named "Record of Lodoss War - Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth" plays similar and its engine was probably adjusted for Blade Chimera. The management of hitpoints and energy asks players to accustomize but that's not too difficult. The difficulty of the game is challenging, fair but also a bit rigorious with a handful possible instant death situations. Some skills and consumable items help alot in dire moments.
Some boss fights are slightly cinematic with camera positions. During these fights, the camera isn't always centered on the player character. This can assist to aim but it can also cause a few strange and unwanted situations. Sometimes, I liked it alot. In some other fights, I didn't like it so much. Normal exploration isn't affected by this.
The content size of Blade Chimera feels "medium" with a casual playthrough of roughly 8 hours. I can't complain. It's balanced and it feels fair. Some "secret" and hard to reach locations can be discovered and reward players with a few goodies too. What surprised me was the decision to avoid the utilization of skills and abilities to access new location alot.
Blade Chimera emphasizes atmosphere much more than puzzle solving except for a few jumping puzzles. Some great ideas could be mentioned in that aspect but I don't want to spoiler the content of the game. It lives up to a strong core potential with a limited amount of puzzles. The replay value, chances of playing it again, are low to medium. Good storytelling but the story won't alternate and it's same ending. Challenging yourself with selfinflicted restrictions works well for reasons of replaying Blade Chimera.
In conclusion:
Worth the time. Worth the money. I'm looking forward to see more from Ladybug. They say, they love platformers. I'll take you up on that. Cheers!

Wundervolles Metroidvania, für Achievement-Hunter ebenfalls sehr angenehm gestaltet!
Ist das Geld auf jeden Fall wert.

Secret Boss hat schon was drauf...
Aussteller unten dran setzen. Sieht nur nicht so angenehm aus.
