As a Kickstarter backer, I was excited to see the development and release of this game. After playing it, I'm happy to say it delivered, but there's still work that needs to be done. I'm also giving this review knowing full well that it is in Early Access mode, so I have faith that things can be worked on.
Starting off with graphics, the overview is generally gorgeous. I would equate the experience of this game to viewing a lovely light show in a museum. Much of the game is screenshot and wallpaper-worthy as the colors and display really do stand out. However, when you start to really look into the depth, that's when you may feel a bit less enthusiastic. Many textures need to be worked on, the 2D to 3D ratio is slightly off-putting in some scenes, and I've seen some spastic flashy glitches in some areas.
Sound is pretty similar to graphics. It sets a great atmosphere and there are just some moments where it is beautifully placed. I am very content with how the soundtrack evokes the feeling of peace and calmness. But again, the small things need to be fixed. Mainly, it's the cuts and transitions. The music tends to loop in a pretty inharmonious way as it just stops abruptly and will start again in a few seconds. Almost as if someone stopped a tape, rewound it and pressed play again.
Gameplay is fairly simple. A bit of a walking simulator with very slight puzzle/collecting elements to it. You're mainly exploring and viewing the beautiful scenery as if you're along on a ride. My only complaint here is that it is a bit tough to navigate forward sometimes. Some things need to be triggered for you to continue on and it's not obvious how to trigger them. It doesn't get to a point of frustration, but you may be looking a bit longer than you would like.
There's not much of a story to the game. You explore more about the areas around you and the life forms and visions around you do give slight context. Otherwise, nothing much to say on that end.
My last point to make here is that the price can be a turn off for many given that the game may last you from 1-3 hours at most. If more content is to be added, that'd be great, but so far, it's not at that level yet.
Overall, the game has a lot of promise. It was beautiful and a pleasant experience. With more work, I think a lot of people can come to this game to just relax and enjoy what it has to offer.

I initially backed this game on Kickstarter and played it when it first came out. Since then, I hadn't given it much thought, but stumbled across it again and decided to give it another playthrough. Beyond the Underworld is a simple game where you explore a version of the afterlife. It's a short experience that you can spend a few hours in, just exploring the environments and looking for some collectibles if you want to. Overall, it was a nice experience and just a chill game to spend some time in. The OST is also very well done and really helps with the atmosphere of the game, especially the final run up to Elysium. One thing I do wish for is to be able to track what collectibles you've already gotten and which levels the ones you are missing are in. But, especially if you're new to this, for only $1 it's worth it.

Honestly I love this game. I know this was a kickstarter, so I know it was going to be rough. I played it almost a year ago; when it was announce beta was going. I love the beautiful layout and song. I left a discussion about an area, that was to confusing to navigate and asked for a map and the developer said they would work on it.
Logging back in, I don't see it; which I can understand due to pandemic cause problems (I hope the developer is healthy and safe)...worst part for me, I forgot come controls on interacting with the area and already can't find the intro for noobs to use the controls. Such is my life. I still love the game. Yes it's not perfect; but this was made by a small group or individual, so give the person some slack.

Beautiful aesthetic.
Calm, peaceful visuals and sounds.
I really like this game a lot and I have a couple of notable improvements to suggest.
The overworld with the caves should be where you load in after you have finished the tutorial and come back into the game.
The puzzle in the second part of the crimson world, with the invisible paths, needs to be implemented better. Either you should respawn back at the top if you fall off, or the paths need to be less difficult to fall off of.

When I saw that Beyond The Underworld was in Early Access since 2020 and read the bad reviews I thought no point giving it a try; but I really like the aesthetics showing in the steam video preview so what did I have to lose ? Ok £0.79p.
So I played 2h of Beyond The Underworld, for me it felt like an exploration experience, the kind of genre you want to buy for the way it makes you feel while playing. Obviously if you only focus on the bad things you won't have a nice experience. Of course a lot can be improved but if you forget about it, listen to the music and appreciate the colourful environments then its totally worth it. Sometimes being imperfect is what makes it perfect.
I personally didn't encounter any bugs but I did end up falling off the map but it was my fault xD, my curiosity pushed me to go off route to look what was behind a mountain. This is just my personal opinion but I think the fact that the dev mentioned in a review that he was working on another project and kind of abandoned this game made people disappointed, I think if he made some changes even if it's just small ones like jump/run more people would actually enjoy and buy the game. It would also be nice for the people that supported him and still continue to support the game.
Anyway If you are looking to explore beautiful areas and experience relaxing and colourful visuals, listen to an amazing soundtrack you should give it a try, if you're not really patient and don't like this kind of simulation walk away. PS : where can i listen to the soundtrack please I can't find it online.

Good game, needs some tweaks. Need to apply auto run every time you enter a new screen.
