Screw the base game, use mods.
Go to properties and enable beta participation and select 1.29, this will prevent the game from updating and breaking all your mods. Use ModAssistant to easily manage and install your mods. Use beatsaver and bsaber to install custom maps.

You need to mod the game to get the full experience, and when you do, it's amazing. Good way to burn some calories while having fun.

Great game but download m0ds because they charge ridiculous prices for new songs

Buy the game but when you do so please mod it. Most people never think about modding it but trust me it opens the doors to how everyone should play this game. Look up a guide on YouTube and fall into the rabbit hole that is the best rhythm game ever made.
ps. If you don't think you're good at modding things trust me this game is by far the easiest I've ever modded.

I've ruined 3 index face gaskets, 1 index controller, 1 Oculus rift controller, and there's a small hole in the wall behind me. Remember, it's not just the blocks that you'll be slicing.
10/10 would recommend

I highly recommend this game but this comes with an asterisk (*) and that modding is required.
The base game (without mods) is very plain. The base content is decent and there is quite a bit you get with the game however without a dedicated map creator, online ranked leaderboards or any form of importing custom maps combined with the constant release of map packs, it's very clear the devs care more about making money than creating a VR version of OSU!.
This is where the mods come in! While being stuck on 1.29 version of the game, the community has done a lot to make beatsaber into a competitive rhythm game like OSU! where you have great online ranked communities, massive selection of custom maps and so much community made content that it really highlights how much of a let down it is to not have this in the base game.
Overall, if you're not going to take the time to mod the game, it may not be worth it. Don't get me wrong, the game is really fun but it's the online community and custom content that has allowed me to have the amount of playtime I currently have.
