Bayonetta
In the present day, an informant named Enzo has joined up with Bayonetta, a witch who was revived twenty years ago from the bottom of a lake and has no memories of her past. Owning one half of the "Eyes of the World", Bayonetta leaves for Vigrid when Enzo informs her of rumors the other half is there. Afterward, Bayonetta confronts another Umbra Witch named Jeanne, as well as a young man named Luka; the former seemingly has ties to Bayonetta's past, while the latter blames Bayonetta for his father's death. Bayonetta then battles through Vigrid before encountering Fortitudo, one of the four Cardinal Virtues, and defeats him. Making her way through the Crescent and Sunrise Valleys, Bayonetta finds Jeanne conversing with Temperantia, the second of the Cardinal Virtues; after defeating Jeanne, she then meets a lost child named Cereza. Much to Bayonetta's frustration, the child believes she's her mother and follows her; after eventually returning to the human world. Bayonetta leaves Cereza with Luka and confronts Temperantia, whom she defeats. Continuing her search for the Right Eye, Bayonetta follows Luka and Cereza down Prominence Bridge in an attempt to reach the island known as Isla del Sol; she is attacked by Iustitia, the third Cardinal Virtue, and defeats him.

The Good: This game is 16 years old and it's still good, better than many recent 3D action games.
The Bad: Nintendo is holding Bayonetta hostage.
The Ugly: Viola in Bayonetta 3.

I did not take the "over-the-top action game" description very seriously but oh boy was I wrong. Everything in this game is absurd. I love it!
You play as Bayonetta, a fashion model witch recently woken up from a long slumber, struggling to catwalk wearing guns for heels recover her memory without losing her swag or something. Her only link to her past is a mysterious, equally glamorous figure, Jeanne, who is kinda of a b**** to her. Amidst combos, Bayonetta will pause for a photograph, or do some pole-dance-like moves to summon a demon who proceeds to possess her hair (which she is in fact wearing? so she kinda gets naked when that happens?) and attack the enemy. On the downside, I am myself not a fan of long-arms-and-legs-and-tiny-head, but I can look past it.
The gameplay is challenging even on normal. It is very fast paced, combos are complex and varied. You can purchase new weapons, techniques, upgrades and accessories which act just like levels. The story is divided into 17 "chapters", each having multiple "verses". They then proceed to tease you by grading your performance in each Verse with medals and it is annoying and insulting and not good for my OCD when you get less than Platinum for a job you consider well done. There are 5 difficulties, but you need to finish 3 to unlock 4, and 4 to unlock 5 and let me tell you, you'll regret doing so.
No Linux port but worked perfectly on Steam Deck - thanks Valve! The achievements are quite difficult, having to finish the game in the max difficulty. However, it is the "fair" kind of difficult and I love it. Even after getting all achievements there will be extra challenges, hidden levels and bosses with interesting prizes and the insane challenge to get platinum trophy on all difficulties.
Honestly, this game was full of "WTF" moments and was VERY entertaining. Just in originality, this scores a perfect 10/10, definitely worthy!

"Bayonetta" offers a stylish and over-the-top action experience.
The game features a unique and memorable cast of characters, each with their own distinct personalities.
Bayonetta's story is engaging and full of twists and turns.
Finally, I have a question: why aren't Bayonetta 2 and 3 on Steam?

This game sucks on a keyboard. Play it with a controller.
Also, Normal difficulty is actually Hard. And honestly, if you like dying a lot, then this is great.

Unhinged in every way. You can tell the developers were doing literally whatever the fuck they wanted to and the end result is like nothing else. It also happens to be one of the best action games ever made and one of the longest arcade games. You can play it on normal a single time and have a blast or you can spend the rest of your life trying to pure platinum every chapter on the highest difficulty. Both are valid ways of playing
