Things I do like:
- The intro is quite nice and sets the scene for the game nicely.
- That Dark Souls vibe.
- Not just human enemies, slimy mobs and undead too.
- The dev gets releases out super fast and listens to all the feedback.
Things I don't like:
- A fair amount of bugs here and there, kind of feels like it should be in alpha as the community are practically playtesting the game.
- Loot system is totally random throughout the whole game.
Edit: 01/05/2020 - Changed my review to positive because the dev addressed all of my major concerns in less than a week.

It's fine. Feels like Oblivion, though the inspiration seems to have Dark Souls at its core. The controls aren't too intuitive but not so outlandish to complain about. I find the visual style to be a little bland, like a photo taken with automatic mode on in a room lit by yellow lights. I think the game would look a lot better if the contrast between light and dark were stronger

It's basically a souls-like with Diablo seasoning. It has a endearing indie vibe with just the right amount of jank.

Yep. Feels and plays like Dark Souls.
Remember what you are getting here when supporting the game and devs.
You WILL get a PC only game(No consoles, sir) that is worth playing even if it is a little rough around the edges. For this price, I would not bother and just buy the game.
Just my two cents on this one.

First i normally don't do reviews but this is a game i,ll definitely do. This was one of the better games I've played in a while. Congratulations to the dev! The things i liked in the game are : 1. the atmosphere and look of the game. 2. the characters are interesting and a decent variety. 3. The challenging boss fights that were not to easy or so hard you cant finish. 4. Story was ok it help ramp up the action. 5. Was challenging to get around with no map. 6.Decent amount of weapons and traits. 7. the fact that if someone was stuck on boss could keep game going was big plus. The cons: 1. no map at times was frustrating yet challenging. 2. no guide on mystic fountain / runes. 3. small flaws of contact not registering on hit boxes. Loved the game !!! Hope there is another in the future. better than some aaa games . Thanks for the fun!

Back to ashes is clearly a souls-like, and specifically a Demon-souls-like, and the only question left to ask, is it any good? Yes, it is good, the combat is fun and challenging, the world is dark and nighmarish, and the maps are webs of potential exploration. it also adds random loot drops ala Diablo.
