In short:
The game is fun. Blitzing around the map with the 3D gear cutting down Titans like a human buzz-saw is just as delightful as it looks in the TV series (though you'll only be "blitzing" once you improve your gear and learn timing). And for a change of pace you get to operate the flesh mecha cough I mean play as the Attack Titan.
HOWEVER, caveat emptor if you're a mouse/keyboard user (see below).
Buy the game + the mission DLCs, skip the nonsense cosmetics.
For AoT 2 players:
This game has fewer features than the sequel, which also means it feels less gimmicky. No titan-killing guns invalidating the very premise of the setting, no autofiring artillery, no supply bases making the whole desperate "we're out of fuel" mission absurd, and no Thunder Spears at times when they weren't even invented yet. I do enjoy those things in AoT 2, but I'm also glad it's possible to have *this* experience. Just plain blade combat against Titans.
In short, it's the more faithful of the two games.
Some of the combat mechanics are actually better. The boost key lets you rapidly reposition (in AoT2 only guns have that). It's easier to target the limb you want. Plus you can plan ahead, starting an attack, then targetting the next limb before completing it; if you do that in AoT 2, you whiff.
Playing as a Titan is definitely more fun. The effect doesn't run out after a few seconds. Either you have a full mission where you just kick ass as Eren, or you transform, with minimum 75 seconds Titan time when fully buffed, though if you can keep a streak going you can stay as a Titan indefinitely. So you get to have fun with it. In AoT2 this feature was basically neutered by a short span - and yet, annoyingly, you can't even untransform before it runs out. Too bad, since you have a larger variety of Titan forms to play with there.
Characters have their own strengths and weaknesses, with semi-unique skills. This leads to genuinely different playstyles depending on whom you're controlling. Armin is the backseat driver style leader; Mikasa is the solo killing machine; Jean and Levi are both frontline leaders, requiring a squad to achieve full combat potential, except Levi is better at combat, and Jean at leading. And so on. As opposed to AoT2's 999 skill points and Free Skills that let you make everyone a superman.
Note on Controls:
The control scheme doesn't natively support the mouse. It's clearly a gamepad game with M/KB as an afterthought. You can use a third party tool like vJoy to remap the gamepad to mouse and keyboard directly.
Or... you can just play the game as is. The gamepad is mapped purely to the keyboard. Left stick is, of course, , and I like to rebind the camera stick to the righthand equivalent, . Feels like some oldschool DOS games.
The result is a pure keyboard experience similar to normal 10-finger typing, which... actually works. It's an uncommon way to play a game, so if you're the type to refuse to adapt to an uncommon control scheme (Gothic 1 malcontents come to mind), maybe try vJoy instead. Personally, I found it works out great in practice. Partly because camera precision doesn't matter (no AoT-2-style sneak attacks), while the keyboard's precise control over targetted Titan limbs is great and perhaps actually the superior experience. I've given the game an honest try with a gamepad too, and I didn't feel compelled to switch.
Two things to dislike:
"Fortifying" is a stupid grind. You can (and eventually will likely need to) improve your gear by crafting a few hundred extra pieces and sacrificing them for stat increases, 3 at a time, for resources obtainable from repeating certain missions. This is a mindnumbing activity, and sinks replayability - the thought that I'd have to do it again is the reason it took me years before I was ready for a second playthough.
Poor mission scripting (from time to time). If you simply do well and respond quickly to all missions, you will often fail to meet the requirements for special "Dire Subjugations"; sometimes these are impossible without manipulating the mission in unintuitive ways that you'll only learn from googling or lots of experimentation. I found this often amusing or even satisfying to figure out, but sometimes it's just obviously wasting your time, waiting for the message queue to clear so the mission is finally allowed to notice you reached a trigger location.

If you’re a fan of Attack on Titan, you’ll love Wings of Freedom. The game does an amazing job of making you feel like you’re part of the anime, especially with how smooth and fun the Omnidirectional Mobility Gear is to use. Swinging around and taking down Titans is super satisfying, and it never gets old.
The story mode stays true to the show, letting you relive all those epic moments while adding some cool extras. Upgrading your gear and abilities is a nice touch and makes progression feel rewarding. Multiplayer is another highlight—teaming up with friends to fight Titans is a blast.
That said, one downside is the lack of mod support. It would’ve been awesome to see the community expand on the game with custom content or tweaks. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re big on modding.
Overall, if you’re into Attack on Titan or just looking for a fun action game, definitely check this out. It’s a great time!

I received this game as a gift for my birthday because I absolutely adore Attack on Titan. This game even brought back my obsession with the series, made me re-watch the entire series again. I love love LOVE the game, but I don't have a controller, which makes the beginning tutorial a bit difficult to figure out and get used to even when I manually set the keys myself. Besides that, everything is perfect and wonderful! 10/10 would recommend.

I played the second part of this game and I can say with confidence that I liked the first much more.
Excellent plot, well-developed characters, good graphics even by today's standards. I highly recommend that those who are fans of the anime 'Attack on Titan' buy this game. You definitely won't regret purchasing

Rough around the edges, tons of aliasing for some reason, graphics are kinda dogwater, but the game is fun asl. Just the fact that ODM gear exists makes this game so enjoyable to play, the only complaint I have about it is that instead of being able to directly shoot your grapples out with your mouse you just press a button and the game does all the of it for you. Also the controls are absolutely horrible. The main drawback of the game is that you have to remap every button yourself since whoever mapped had was either drunk or had 8 tentacles instead of arms. You also have to control where you look with your keyboard instead of your mouse like flying a plane in gta for some reason but your always locked onto titans when fighting them so i doesnt really become a hassle. solid 8/10.
