Cute anime girl adventure! Excellent quality RPG about an Alchemist taking over the business. Grind monsters, collect ingredients, take quests, buy new outfits, and discover ancient mysteries in the main quest (when you get around to doing it)

If you like the series, you'll like this game.
If you haven't the faintest idea about what this game is about, either wait until it is on special (unlikely) or go elsewhere. It's extremely niche.

In Atelier Lulua, you get ingredients by harvesting, mining, fishing and killing monsters, which you then use to create a huge number of magical items.
Genuinely one of the most in-depth and extensive crafting systems I've ever seen. I literally have to pull out a piece of paper to plot my strategy for crafting high level items to ensure that I can get all the attributes and stats that I want. It's very compelling to try to collect/complete everything.
Everything is designed with a cute aesthetic, though the graphics do feel a little outdated at times.
A solid RPG combat system. It's rather easy at first but towards the end you really need to make use of alchemy to craft high level gear to be successful.
There are lots of characters with their own cutscenes, interactions and side quests. Personally, while the interactions are all cute and pleasant, they aren't always super interesting so I did end up skipping a lot of these after a while.
The main story is fairly generic but is delivered in a fun way. You are given a book full of riddles which unlock alchemy recipes when you figure them out. For these riddles you might have to find a specific item, find a rare monster, talk to the right NPC, etc. The game is like a giant scavenger hunt.

Recommendation
Buy if you're a fan of any of the Atelier games, maybe wait for a sale. If you’re a fan of the Atelier Arland trilogy, definite buy. Plenty of returning characters with new events.
Pros
• My favorite part of any Atelier game, the upbeat/relaxing soundtrack. Lulua is no exception.
• Plenty of content; 50+ hrs playing at a normal pace. Clear feeling of progression and reward throughout the game so you don’t feel like you’re doing something for no reason.
• Alchemy system allows for a lot of optimization – great for perfectionists.
• Great visuals and character designs. Events are fun to watch.
• New battle mechanic “Interrupt” is fun to use and allows for more strategy during battles.
Pro/Con
• New alchemy system, based more around balancing opposing elements. I miss the puzzle board from the Mysterious trilogy a bit, but the system in Lulua is by no means a downgrade.
• JRPG turn based combat. 3 frontline and 2 backline supports.
• Lulua’s character personality can be a hit/miss for some folks.
Cons
• I was not a fan of the story parts of the last chapter at all. I think ending it at the second to last chapter would have been better.
• Assist skill animations can sometimes feel like they drag on, especially if the enemy is immune to your assist’s attack.
• No “Hide Text” button during dialogues.
