Assassin’s Creed® 2 is the follow-up to the title that became the fastest-selling new IP in video game history. The highly anticipated title features a new hero, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble, and a new era, the Renaissance. Assassin’s Creed 2 retains the core gameplay experience that made the first opus a resounding success and features new experiences that will surprise and challenge players. Assassin’s Creed 2 is an epic story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine, yet brutal, backdrop of a Renaissance Italy. Ezio befriends Leonardo da Vinci, takes on Florence’s most powerful families and ventures throughout the canals of Venice where he learns to become a master assassin. EZIO, A NEW ASSASSIN FOR A NEW ERA Ezio Auditore da Firenze is a young Italian noble who will learn the ways of the assassins after his family was betrayed and he looks to seek vengeance. He is a lady’s man, a free soul with panache yet has a very human side to his personality. Through him, you become a master assassin. RENAISSANCE ITALY Italy in the 15th century was less a country and more a collection of city-states where families with political and economic strength began to take leadership roles in cities like Florence and Venice. This journey through some of the most beautiful cities in the world takes place in a time in history where culture and art were born alongside some of the most chilling stories of corruption, greed and murder.

Short review
The Assassin-Templar feud keeps rolling. Ditch the dusty Crusades and jump straight into the lively Italian Renaissance in this sequel that actually fixes what sucked in the first game. Quick note: the PC version already bundles both DLCs from the consoles. It keeps the soul of the original but feels fresh and way more packed. Assassin's Creed II still slaps — even with a slowish start — and it's loaded with way more content. The main story is a lot more varied than the old "investigate, stab, repeat" loop, and you get tons of freedom to dive into fun side missions. The core formula is still there, but all the upgrades make this one a true franchise highlight.
Long review
The first Assassin's Creed split the fans hard: some loved it and ignored the flaws, others got fed up with the repetitive gameplay and empty-feeling cities. So the devs' plan for the sequel was super clear — fix that mess.
It's bigger, richer, and way less repetitive. Assassin's Creed II managed to reach it's goal of winning back the people who quit after the first one. Don't get me wrong, it's not a total reinvention, but a ton has changed, starting with the setting. The Animus now sends you to Renaissance Italy. New era, new rules, new hero — a descendant of Altaïr.
Meet Ezio Auditore da Firenze, this cocky, loud, hot-headed flirt who basically gets dragged into the assassin life the hard way when the Templars execute his dad and brothers before his eyes. The whole atmosphere flips thanks to him. Goodbye serious, proud Altaïr — hello charming Ezio, who slowly drops the party-boy act over a story that spans more than ten years. He's the classic Italian ladies' man: you either love him or wanna slap him every time he says "va bene." I actually enjoyed watching him mature during the game. The good news is it gets better once he finally puts on the assassin robes… which does take a while. This Assassin's Creed definitely starts slower than the first game.
Overall it's longer, with big cities — Venice alone can eat up hours of your time. The original barely had side stuff; here there's loads to do: parkour races, fun secondary assassinations, Assassin Tombs (more on those in a sec), saving citizens, Codex pages, hidden glyphs, and way more main missions. Some are short, but they all push the story forward nicely.
Let's talk Ezio's upgrades first. Everything revolves around money now. You pay to upgrade armor, health, weapons, medicine and ammo. You earn money when accomplishing missions, when you pickpocket people, loot chests, and most importantly when you manage your villa. The Auditore Villa is basically a money printer: renovate it (especially the bank) and the florins just keep rolling in. It's a cool idea, but running back and forth gets old fast, especially when you can farm cash other ways, so at some point you can just ignore it if you feel like it.
The hero also learned cool new moves: ledge kills, hiding-spot takedowns, dual hidden blades kills (thanks to his buddy Leonardo da Vinci). Later Leo also hooks him up with a pistol, smoke bombs for quick getaways, and even a flying machine for one mission. Oh yeah — the hero can finally swim instead of drowning like an idiot at the first drop of water.
Ezio's also super social (or rich enough to buy friends). Like Altaïr he blends into crowds without trying, and he can join any group. Even better, he can recruit helpers: mercenaries to wreck guards, thieves to distract and roof-run with you, courtesans to charm enemies away. These make missions way more fun. During chases just throw coins on the ground and watch civilians swarm and block your pursuers.
All of this makes the progression feel fresh. Cities are packed with activities and freedom, but the main quest is more straightforward. The assassin missions (there are tons now) skip the old boring investigation steps and feel like proper climaxes after chains of different tasks. You still get tricky tailing bits with smarter guards and civilians who yell if you shove them. There's also a notoriety system, if you become known, the guards will attack you on sight. To help with that, you rip down posters, kill witnesses, or bribe heralds.
The pace feels quicker and the content more varied — especially since they cut most of those annoying modern-day scenes. Escorts, freeing prisoners, heists… there’s a ton, but the main path keeps you hooked without forcing side stuff. Rest assured, you can still play the game the stealthy way if you want to. Or you can rush in like a bull and deal with the chaos. Or even play it smart: snipe archers, stay hidden, plan your route. Want to ambush a target? Watch her head to her boat, then drop from the sky to land a kill right as she thinks she's safe. Getting away is still tough, but now it feels stylish. Kills can be more aggressive (which fits Ezio perfectly), though some missions force you to use stealth so you have to get creative with your environment.
Another addition: the six Assassin Tombs. They're like mini Prince of Persia levels with seals to collect — indoor platforming, puzzles, timed sections. They break up the pace (some people might not like it), but they're short, well-made, and fun. Treat them as challenges, breathers, or whatever — your call.
So, is it enough to win over the haters? Assassin's Creed stays true to itself. Fans of the first will love it, even if the changes might be surprising at first. New players get real fixes that might actually hook them. But if the core idea turned you off before, this won't magically change your mind.
Some annoyances are still there: a sometime weird AI, an old engine with ugly faces and clipping issues. Also the PC version could’ve been better optimized for strong PCs. On the bright side, it includes both console DLCs right from the start (even if the price is a bit high).

Je me suis régalé.
Requiescat in pace

"Par définition Dieu est connaissance, il est tout puissant, tu ne pense quand même pas l'inquiéter avec de vielles babioles !?"
Une aventure mythique, il reste encore aujourd'hui l'un de mes préféré de la saga
Retour en 2010, un plaisir de me replonger dans l'histoire de Ezio vécu au travers de Desmond aussi perdu l'un que l'autre, l'un cherchant son chemin, forcé de suivre un groupe obscur, l'autre en quête de justice suivant malgré lui un héritage insoupçonné;
