Alien Swarm is a game and Source SDK release from a group of talented designers at Valve who were hired from the Mod community.
Available free of charge, the game thrusts players into an epic bug hunt featuring a unique blend of co-op play and squad-level tactics. With your friends, form a squad of four distinct IAF Marine classes. Plan your attack using an unlockable arsenal of weapons with countless loadout configurations against a wide variety of aliens. Blaze your way through an overrun, off-world colony, eradicating the alien infestation in environments ranging from the icy planet’s surface, to a subterranean lava-flooded mining facility.
Along with the game get the complete code base for Alien Swarm that features updates to the Source engine as well as the SDK. Alien Swarm adds 3rd person camera, depth of field, improved dynamic shadows and a wide variety of gameplay additions to the Source engine.

I wish Valve did Alien Swarm 2 and make a strong comeback like Helldivers 2, it would be nice.

This game is incredible. I played this game a while ago, getting a couple of basic achievements before not playing again due to lack of players. However, it disappeared from my library and due to this, it intrigued some friends.
I got a group together to join me in playing this game, they were hesitant at best to try some super obscure game. We started the first couple of levels pretty easily, but as we got further along we had to work on our loadouts, strategy, and formations. by the end we became a well oiled machine. When we started we were boys, we came out as men.

This game is a hidden gem. Aliens have taken over a remote planet. A squad is sent to find survivors from the colony. Unfortunately, the colony has been completely overrun by the swarm, so it must be destroyed.
The campaign contains only 7 levels. Each of them have secret messages to tell the players what had happened. The level designs are great and the game is replayable with random factors to keep it interesting. Most levels have really funny secret exploits that can make the missions much faster. There are 4 classes each with 2 members. The squad doesn't need one of each, you can play with whoever you want, but some levels require a tech marine.
One thing I don't like in this game is that every class has a superior member who is better in pretty much every relevant way than the other one.
I think this is one of the best game made by Valve, even though it's not that popular.

Still works which is great, in order to play more than just "offline practice mode" aka the first 2 of 7 levels you need to add bots in manually through the console (this also lets you play the higher difficulties without needing to find 3 friends).
