Trine 4 is a redemption of the series, steering itself back to everything it did right in the first two games and, thankfully, completely retconning the third game pretty much.
We go back to the 2D angles that just work for what the game is trying to do—no more awkward isometric levels with the depth of a two-layer ham sandwich. It's just good old puzzling platforming with more nuanced combat than before. Trine's combat still isn't too hard, but under the assumption that it's a game meant to be enjoyed by various players of differing skill, the choreographed attacks and elemental systems have been improved to a point where I feel a wider variety of players could enjoy it.
Trine 4 sports a great self-contained story that is enjoyable from start to finish, along with a worthwhile DLC that adds to its narrative. Of course, the depth of the story doesn't go much further than previous Trine games, but in a sense, it's simple and sweet.
Trine 4 is made with wonderful painterly-like graphics and feels smooth to play and run. The music is good, and the voice acting feels consistent.
Overall, this game got the series back on the right track and makes me excited for Trine 5 again. If you're hesitant after playing Trine 3 about picking up this game, I'd say definitely do try it out again.

Trine 4 is hands down my favorite entry in the series. I know a lot of people say Trine 1 or 2 were better, but for me, this one just nails it. The puzzles and exploration are pure joy, especially in co-op. Me and my friend had a ton of 'I don't think we were supposed to solve it like that' moments—which, honestly, made it even more fun 😄
The only downside for me is the combat. It’s not terrible, but something about it just feels off. I’m not a game designer, so I won’t pretend to have the solution, but regular fights often feel like a chore. Boss fights are a bit better, but overall combat could use some love.
And as always, Amadeus in combat is... well, yeah. What are we supposed to do with him? Zoya carries the damage, Pontius is decent—until you face something that laughs at melee and you just chill while your friend on Zoya carries the fight for you. Still, despite all that, the game is an absolute blast and easily the best Trine experience I’ve had so far. And I understand perfectly well that the game is not about battles at all, but since they were added to the game I wanted to note this. I want to point it out again that the main aspect of the game which are puzzles, platforming and exploration and they are made wonderfully!

Cons:
- There's a save game bug (at least in co-op). You have to join games in a specific way, as in press 'continue' and then 'join game hosted by '. Getting invited by the host via Steam seems to cause the game to constantly start a new save file. Resulting in multiple save files, and your collectibles and abilities resetting. When we finished the game (having found all collectibles), two of us were still missing half of the collectibles. Though I went back and re-found them anyway, it's still very annoying.
- Sometimes, the game can get a little buggy or laggy (at least in co-op), though nothing gamebreaking. Buggy when it comes to a few physics interactions, where (as an example) we tied 2 mage boxes together with a rope and wrapped it around a branch, but then the boxes spazzed out and phased through the branch. Laggy because there were some moments of 'rubber-banding' and stuttering, especially when it came to faster platforming and physics.
- There are one or two levels that felt much less enjoyable to play, and even annoying to get through at times. Not many at all, but still. My example for this is level 12, the Crackling Mire.
- The final boss feels too intense and demanding for a game like Trine. It was a big tonal whiplash for us when that fight began, and overall it just wasn't very fun for us.
- The ending sequence was a little bit short in my opinion. It was pretty and wholesome to be sure, and by no means bad or boring at all... But it did create a bit of an 'oh, that's it?' feeling for me.
Pros:
+ The environments of Trine 4 are very beautiful. Moonlit Forest and Gossamer Grove are just a few examples. The levels truly feel like being in a wondrous fantasy world, and just walking through them and taking in the sights and sounds is an experience in and of itself.
+ Trine 4 goes back to its roots, with the classic Trine 2.5D experience, with puzzles, platforming and whimsy. Some of the combat might be a little bit lacking at times, but overall it's a very enjoyable game.
+ There are plenty of levels to play, more than Trine 1 and 2 even. 18 levels from the main campaign, 6 levels from the DLC, and 1 additional free level. So there's enough content here in my opinion.
+ An overall chill, interesting and wholesome experience! Even though there are a few areas that interrupt this by suddenly being a little too complicated or intense, overall its gameplay is very good.
+ It's a fun co-op experience, if you've got some people to play it with. Playing solo is still fun though, but definitely less so in comparison to co-op.
+ I was able to create a lot of amazing memories in this game with someone very dear to me.
TL;DR - For me, the positives far outweighed the negatives, so overall I would definitely give Trine 4 a positive review and my recommendation.

A visual masterpiece. The puzzles aren't hard (4/10) but you can solve is so many different ways, that I can consider this as a strong point (so, puzzles is 7/10 in the end). Combat is week, but is not the focus of the game. Play as solo is ok (go for the achievements) But playing with in multiplayer is the right way to play! Experience overall is amazing. One of the best purchase you can do on sale

A return to form 😀 for Frozenbyte!
After the unsuccessful experiment that was Trine 3, it's back to the winning formula of the previous games. I'm very biased when talking about the Trine series; they just hit all the right spots for me.
If you like the following don't think twice about buying it (or even the whole bundle):
✅ Pure, innocent fantasy setting
✅ Entertaining characters, wholesome story
✅ Beautiful environments and graphics overall
✅ Absolutely enchanting music that is worth the price of the game alone
✅ Solid platforming and hard but not absurd puzzles
There can be minor frustrations while fighting (especially under pressure) or few glitches while doing the puzzles, but nothing that takes away from the experience or forcing you to reload. I got stuck in the sky once - very early in the game and had an arrow glitch that helped me solve a portals puzzle in the DLC. Other than that it's been smooth sailing.
The games are often on sale with huge discounts so don't hesitate and CONSUME PRODUCT!
p.s
No DLC achievements or one for finishing the game on Hard. Pity.
