Brutal Legend
Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed by gamers and Metalheads alike. The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.

This game deserved 5 sequels and a movie series - all of which involving Jack Black. You can't convince me this isn't one of the best stories of all time. The action, the dialogue, the MUSIC. Holds up all these years later. Pure perfection.

Look it isn't perfect, it's not very hard, it has some pacing issues, and even a little buggy.
But its got great music, a unique timeless type of look and good voice acting.
It's hard to describe but you really want to give it a chance!

Overall, it's a game that you can play while your friends backseat play and laugh at. By far not a masterpiece, but it's more than serviceable as something you can play for an hour or two at a time.
First, the good shit.
- The soundtrack is stacked. Diamond Head, Rotting Christ, Deathstars, KMFDM, if you can think of a band then they most likely have a song in the game.
- The combat is enjoyable if you want to just annihilate hordes of monsters, but don't expect some Devil May Cry type combat considering how casual the game is.
- The artstyle also reminds me of some Saturday morning cartoon with imagery borrowing heavily from different metal and alt subgenres.
- The inclusion of Jack Black as the main character didn't really detract from the game in my opinion. His chemistry with most of the characters and cameos are the highlights of the game.
Now, the bad shit.
- The level structure is repetitive as it is linear. There's no way to play a mission differently, and you have to go from one bland open-world area to the next to do another mission. The side quests help a bit with that, but not enough to go out of your way to do them.
- The RTS shit. The strategy missions can easily turn what should be a 10 minute level into a 30-45 minute one. The worst part is that they're mandatory to progress the story, which can easily make any enjoyment from the game come to a grinding halt.
- The visual bugs. Granted, it's a game from 2013 and I'm sure that there's some workarounds, but it might be a turnoff to some.
10/10. The Zaulia are hot and I want Rima to step on me.

Every Metal fan has to play this game at least once: Its graphics may be dated but its ROCKITUDE is forever

If I were to provide a serious assessment of this game and rate it according to my standards, it would unfortunately lean toward a negative review. While the game embraces simplicity, it feels excessively so, to the point of compromising engagement. The combat system, for instance, lacks depth—combos are largely ineffective, as players can simply rely on basic attacks to progress through the entire game.
The open-world concept, while ambitious, feels rather empty. It's populated primarily with side quests that are overly repetitive and offer minimal rewards upon completion, which fails to provide meaningful incentives for exploration.
Additionally, the upgrading systems feel largely unnecessary. While they do offer some novelty, they hardly impact gameplay in a substantial way. Unless players are actively seeking variety for its own sake, the upgrades provide little motivation to engage with them.
Players who aren't familiar with rock 'n' roll or heavy metal musicians—beyond perhaps Jack Black—might struggle to appreciate what the game is trying to convey. Much of its humor and charm relies heavily on references and playful mockery of real-world musicians, which could feel inaccessible or fall flat for those outside of that cultural sphere.

Nonetheless, what I have written above was just to show what it would look like if I were assessing this game professionally. But honestly, I still stand by giving this game a positive review. Why? Because even though it's overly simple, it’s one of those games you can just dive into without overthinking or putting in too much effort. If you want to enjoy this game, just put your brain on pause, grab a beer, settle into your comfy couch, and have fun!

Great game. Gameplay is really good, some classic hack 'n' slash with a bit of RTS (yes) into the mix.
Come here for the soundtrack, stay for the awesome world-building, cry for a sequel (lore is surprisingly interesting in this Universe). Jack Black gives his very own soul into being Eddie Riggs.

POWER CHORDS, HOT CHICKS, DEMONS, CARS, OPEN WORLD, JACK BLACK, OZZY, LEMMY, ROB HALFORD, and some damn good hilarious writing throughout.
Top points for the main menu being Jack Black taking us inside a vinyl record store and the game itself being a long lost LP. Fucking brilliant game, massive love letter to metal and rock music.
The soundtrack as well is fucking amazing using actual songs from so many bands.
