Gibbous: A Cthulhu Adventure
A comedy cosmic horror adventure made in Transylvania. Darkham, with its crooked gambrel roofs, dark alleys, and a past shrouded in secrecy, never really was a welcoming place, but nowadays? Kooky cults are popping up everywhere, and that most evil book, the Necronomicon, is spoken of in trembling whispers once more. Detective Don R. Ketype is on the case to retrieve the mysterious evil tome, but unsuspecting librarian Buzz Kerwan stumbles upon it and accidentally transforms his cat, Kitteh, into a walking, talking abomination. Being humanized? Quite a downgrade. Gibbous is a comedy cosmic horror game – a modern adventure that is classically inspired, features gorgeous HD art, detailed traditional animation, and a lengthy story that will see the three protagonists travel around the world and deal with abominations both cosmic and human-made, voodoo, and Things That Should Not Be. From Lovecraft Country to Transylvania, set off on a quest to get a very cynical cat to stop talking.

I really enjoyed h this cheeky little point & click.
Loved the art style.
Loved the sound fx and the voice acting was absolutely fantastic.
The story was creepy but not scary, tons of mood. and great environmental storytelling going on.
The humor was cringy in a good way- lots of pop culture references- some that GenX will get without having to Google it, some geared to Millennial senses of humor, some very Gen Z. The cheekiness and the overdone cringe was what made it funnier to me. No deeply hidden subtle humor in this one.
Some adultish situations and language, so probably not great for young kids, but pre-teens and teens? No real problems, I think.
I see some folks saying none of the characters were interesting or relatable, but I found them all to be quite relatable, even the annoying ones (because we all have some people that we love but who annoy the heck out of us in our lives, don't we?).
Accessibility
Text has good contrast and is of a good size- but there is no Text or UI scaling- keep that in mind if you have vision issues, and changing resolutions can cause some elements you need to see and use drop below the screen edges. You may need to use a magnifier program to make things larger if needed- I did not test any, so I apologise- I cannnot say if they will be truly helpful.
I played on a 34" 2560x1440 monitor in fullscreen, wearing my bifocals, and had no issue. But there are some fonts that are used that were more difficult to read, and could be problematic for someone using a screen reader or with certain forms of dyslexia.
Can be played with one hand using only a mouse *except* for needing to use the space bar to bring up all interactive spots at once (you can see them by hovering over them as well, but you will need to search every scene carefully in that case).
UI can be a bit wonky- some interactive spots and the indicators for them can overlap when multiple intractable objects are close together, and the label can sometimes stick to your mouse cursor causing one object to appear to have 2 labels. Could be a bit confusing for some.
All voice acting is also displayed as text, so the game should be playable for Deaf and HoH gamers, though you may miss some of the ambient sound and audio clues/cues.
None of the puzzles were really difficult for me, but for some folks with certain types of ASD or ADHD, they may be frustrating. Lots of missable achievements as well- use a guide (there are several good ones here on Steam and online).
**There are some visual effects and lighting effects that create flashing or strobing, and many scenes are either very dark or very bright. May cause issues for people with some forms of photo-sensitive neurological to conditions (mainly easily triggered seizure disorders and migraines).**
No fast reflexes needed, no timed chases or puzzles, so you can take your time working through things at your own pace.
The game does autosave, but there are some scenes you cannot save in until a cutscene plays, and making lots of save points is recommended so you can go back and replay a scene if needed- again, there are guides that can help you with getting 100% in a single playthrough.
All in all, I really did enjoy my time with this game, and absolutely recommend it for people who like mildly creepy, weird, some cringy humor, and light puzzle action.

turly a hidden gem, i just bought this because i wanted to play a Deponia-esque game again and i was more than pleasantly surprised! i loved the two characters you get to play, as well as the cat of course, i really enjoyed the dialogue and the humour and all i can really say is thank you "stuck in attic" for this great game, i couldn't stop playing it!

Beautiful, very well animated, with decent voice acting, great music, looks amazing in an ultrawide monitor... and yet it is not too enjoyable. There is almost a different text for every combination of objects, but the characters are just not appealing at all. There is a talking cat, but the talking cat is unbearable. There are many inventory objects but they feel like a chore. Very much on the fence with this one, so I leave this a bare recommendation just to appreciate the effort that went into it.
On the other hand this makes me appreciate the Deponia games even more - they are more difficult, characters are meaner, the signposts are not there and yet they are more fun to go through. I just think there is a disconnect between the pace of the puzzles and the story and worldbuilding, as if the parts that get you stuck feel like filler.

Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure is a point-and-click adventure that blends Lovecraftian horror with sharp humor, charming characters, and beautifully hand-drawn art. The voice acting is top-notch, and the puzzles are well-designed, challenging without being frustrating.
I spent about 10 hours with it and was entertained from start to finish.
If you enjoy witty point-and-click adventures, this one is worth playing.

A charming game for all H.P. Lovecraft fans like me. The graphics, humor, and controls remind me of the Pink Panther series, and honestly, I'm thrilled with it.

Overall Gibbous is a very solid point-and-click adventure game. Its best features are the first rate 2-D graphics and voice acting -- some of the best you'll experience in an independently made game like this. I also found most of the dialog amusing, although it can verbose in areas. For me, the major downside was the story. I prefer more serious adventure games, and Gibbous was a little too silly for my tastes. The storytelling isn't very smooth and some of the supporting characters (most notably the villains) are barely developed. In the end, I didn't find the story that involving, although I did enjoy the chemistry between the main protagonist and his cat. Lots of puzzles in this one, most of them easy but a handful are quite challenging. If you like comedic adventure games like Monkey Island, this is definitely worth a try. 7/10.
