While hunting for food for its chicks, an owl is struck by lightning and wakes up to find both its ability to fly and its chicks gone. Now you must brave the dangers of the forest floor and canopy to find your chicks and bring them back home. Recover your ability to navigate the forest in four short levels and try to bring back as many mice home to your chicks that have spent the night – Owlone in the Woods.
Owlone in the Woods is a cute and condensed miniature platformer where you unlock new movement options with each chick you rescue from the forest.
Owlone in the Woods features:
- Original music with five tracks that your chicks hoot in rhythm to.
- Charming(?) accompanying sound design made with books, socks, cutlery and those dry leaves I found in the pot of my avocado plant.
- Dash, jump, climb and fly your way to each chick – and then bring them back to the safety of the hollow of your tree.
- Eat mice to heal – or if you’re already full – regurgitate the meal to your chicks and increase your highscore for your current run.
- Compete for highest score, shortest completion time, and least deaths between runs in the local leaderboard.
- Fully supported by both keyboard and gamepads.
Expect a bit of a challenge and approximately 1 hour’s worth of pixel critters in peril.

cool game, but not exactly the kind of game I prefer.
idk, might come back and finish it someday.

look at the trailer. that's the game. wanna do that for half an hour? i did!
pros:
i love the OST and the sfx are cute
the sprites are actually straight up adorable, especially the fox one. i'd have that on a mousepad or whatever it's great
the movement is very precise. no annoying acceleration, jumps are consistent and the abilities feel natural. you can usually look at an obstacle, think of how you want to traverse it, and then do exactly what you imagined on your head. the sign of a good platformer!
the way abilities are introduced is actually kind of peak design, as i went through the game i actively kept thinking "how will the new ability help me here?"
the enemies are really good! all of them are unique but still straightforward enough to where you only die once to them to fully understand how they work, and there always is a checkpoint the first time you see them
i had a smile on my face for the entire playthrough :)
cons:
you walk and you jump. that's it. it's a game with 3 buttons and two of them are walking left and right
the game is really easy, with a moderate difficulty spike on the very last level. i'd love seeing some tighter platforming as you get more abilities
the game feels so, so slow. the owl's animations don't have much movement, the camera is really zoomed in and you only gain horizontal movement in the 4th level of the game (the game has 5 levels). it just... doesn't feel satisfying? if not for how cozy everything is this game would get boring fast
also, the mouse collectibles kinda suck, but they're only for completionists, so... who cares

cute game, love the graphics, the music is awesome. Really cute story. Worth a play. Tractor was kinda fast though. Some bugs too but no game breakers. Maybe the owl could eat them?
