Let it be remembered that Microsoft shutdown the studio behind this masterpiece and fired everyone despite making 72.4 BILLION in net income in 2023. They also paid 375 million payout to scumbag Bobby Kotick, money that could support both Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks for the next 15 years.

Although this game has the concept and elements of Bioshock, PREY offers a completely different gameplay experience.
While Bioshock mostly gives you a linear story gameplay, with the opportunity of exploration only on the way u're going, PREY gives you the feeling of liberty to explore and do things differently. Every action or omission leads to different paths and consequences.
PLUS: There's plenty side quests and the zero gravity mechanics on this game is the best i've seen. So fun!!
You must keep in mind that this is not the sort of game you gonna rush it to the end. It's not meant to play like that. Instead, you'll chill, read, scavenge, craft, meet new characters, talk to them patiently, get close to them, help them (or not) but ultimately, feel a connection to the characters and the story from your chair in real life. Meaning you'll have plenty more fun if you play it with your heart.
IMPORTANT NOTE: would not recommend to play on hard difficulty. Start with normal and maybe change it mid game!
It's a huge game. Would definitely play it again trying to complete all side quests, especially for some amazing life lessons and new ambitions this game can give you. The lore about the mind on this game and humanity, alien species, life n technology and universe simply fascinates me.

Solid masterpiece and one of a kind.

If you've never had the experience of playing Dishonored or any other Arkane game, you'll probably think...
Wow... another game in space...
Even with very low expectations, I wanted to give the game a chance and I simply felt like an idiot after finishing it. This is truly one of the most complete immersive simulator experiences you will ever have. Studios that work with this type of game know how to compose a product with a beginning and an end.
The prologue alone will leave you speechless... The controls are easy to understand and the gameplay is fantastic. Several mechanics from other Arkane games are implemented here, and are increasingly refined. As cliché as it may seem, this game was one of the only ones that I really felt like I was playing my way, mainly because of the beautiful explanation of how everything works at the beginning of the game and then you use your creativity and learn by making mistakes.
In the first ~free~ moments I found a room that didn't seem to open at all. After trying several things, I discovered that there is the possibility of taking a gun similar to a nerf and shooting at a computer screen (which works) to open the door. This can be applied to most parts of the game, it's simply brilliant and characteristic of Arkane games.
I didn't expect the dialogue and story to really capture me, but from the middle of the game you start to get excited about discovering everything. The first time I played I had a fantastic experience and now after years I have the pleasure of playing again. Making different choices and making the most of what I couldn't do the first time I played. The achievements are quite challenging, especially if you want to do 100%.
After living this experience twice, I can say that Prey (2017) is a historic milestone not only in its genre but as a work of dedication from an experienced team. I will definitely play it a few more times in the future!
As expected, I didn't have any problems with bugs or anything like that. I really didn't find anything frustrating in the game.
If you had a good experience playing Bioshock, Dishonored, Deus Ex or Arx Fatalis you will definitely go crazy like me when you play Prey.
It was worth every penny.

Thank you for the excellent game, Arkane Austin. Fingers crossed that all of the folks from there can get jobs in the industry where they're properly appreciated for their hard work.

After 6 years of holding out on this game, finally beaten it. Damn, this game is a joyride.
Now, all we need to do is wait for a "potential" sequel for this game, whenever that is. Such a shame that we had to experience that of Redfall.

One of my personal favourite games of all time, I always come back to this game over and over again and have 100% it twice. However, despite my love for the game it does have its faults,
Graphics
The graphics shown are quite good, but the art style is what elevates it, like Dishonored, Arkanes other work. Just about everything suits the games style and direction where nothing feels out of place or badly presented graphically.
Gameplay
Despite the game being a first person "shooter" it isn't an FPS. Running around guns blazing wont work half the time, the games rewarding feedback loop is the game one big puzzle. Where enemies, or navigation are not as simple as shooting or opening a door with a button half the time. The game will present many, many ways to deal with small encounters in the game. Something as simple as getting into an area can have up to 3 or more ways to get in. While combat can be handled, yes running and gunning, but with stealth, taking advantage for enemy weaknesses, making traps or ambushes or really any manner you can think of within the games systems.
Prey has many systems that are linked together into one another that its had to talk about one. Where combat mechanics blend into navigation, or exploration. Crafting also blends into combat exploration. Most of the fundamental mechanics only work so well because they work with one or more other ones.
Audio
I'm no audio expert, however the games audio never caused many issues for me. The soundtrack is fantastic as it was done by Mick Gordon who did the new Doom games. The sound design of many items, or environments are as you expect, they pack a punch and are logical. The only issues I have is some audio bleeds over one another, mainly when someone is talking and another will talk over them.
Story
Preys main story is honestly the worst part of its narrative, when you break it down you see why. However, the journey between these parts are the best of the game, this is where you will explore the game and make those choices I mentioned. When the game provides a sandbox of an area and you go and do whatever is the best of the game.
I think the reason I feel this way is due to the structure of how to make the player go to new areas, it honestly reminds me of Dead Space in this regard.
What Prey does very well is its world building, from documented events, to emails, books or environmental story telling. Lots of detail is packed here on the who, what, where and why things are the way they are in Preys world. It's grounded within its own world.
Bugs and Problems
I never ran into any bugs or issue with the game or its DLC in 4 playthroughs. Besides the audio mentioned with it over lapping. I would recommend if you want to increase the FOV and turn Motion Blur off, This can be done through the games config file. I think there is a mod that will add these options to the game so take your pick. I did the config first.
Not a problem really but I will say the last 1/8 of the game is a slog with loading screens, would recommend saving to an SSD.
Mooncrash
I'll admit Mooncrash when I first played on Xbox was something I only did for the achievements but easily sunk over 30 hours alone the first playthrough I did of it.
Its a rouge-like DLC where you play as different characters, where you piece the events of the story together. It also fits nice into the base games story and world, building it even more. Its honestly an amazing DLC and well worth playing, had a lot of fun with it.
Overall
Arkane did excel player choice and emergent gameplay to add depth and replayability to their games. Prey and the Dishonored games are some of the best games I've played and would recommend them to anyone. The game has a few flaws but overall does so much right in a lot of ways. Even on later playthroughs I find more and more about the game, I'd say you'd have to play it twice, both in different ways to appreciate the craft of level and gameplay design done here.
Overall rating: 9.5/10
