As so many of these things do, it all begins on a magical island. In this case, Gogapoe Island, a place populated by both humans and monsters. What starts out as a mission to get back Niko's birthday cake becomes a quest for the fate of Gogapoe itself. But, ya know, cake is still super important, too! Oodles of friendly monsters will join Niko's quest and use their kooky powers to help him explore the island, solve puzzles, demolish obstacles, and just generally humiliate enemies. Hordes of evil monsters will cause mayhem and generally be jerkfaces, but that's nothing you can't fix with headbutts, frost breath, stink clouds and rainbow barf. Save the day and fulfill your monstrous cakelust all at once in MONSTERS ATE MY BIRTHDAY CAKE!

I played this game when I was a kid, and revisited in 7th grade for nostalgia purposes. Now, I am in college, and am revisiting it once again.
I like this silly little puzzle game. Cute artstyle, decent challenges and replayability, with a silly sense of humor, and a nice soundtrack.
I wish more people knew about this game, as it's always been a bit under the radar for quite a while, even when it first released. Despite this, you won't be disappointed. :D

Still holds up in 2026. The whimsical tone belies a game which is genuinely engaging and has surprising depth and creativity. The pacing is just right, keeping things fresh and stimulating but not overwhelming: you receive an appropriate amount of direction while still having the satisfaction of discovering things yourself, the difficulty builds incrementally, and progression is not linear (meaning that many levels have good replay value past the main storyline once you unlock new features). Absolutely hits the spot if you want a cute game that's casual but not mindless.

I remember playing this when I wasn't even double digits and was still on the iOS App Store. This game is my childhood. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend that you do.

I think what really makes this game shine is its simplicity. None of the puzzles are overly difficult, and the overall experience is surprisingly relaxing—even if it can get a bit repetitive at times. I wouldn’t recommend picking it up unless that’s exactly what you’re looking for, but that’s also the reason I enjoyed it as much as I did.

Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake is a good old Classic I used to Love playing this game when I was little, back when it was on iPad
so you can only guess how Happy I was to find it on available for Sale on Steam
it was fun returning to it now that I'm older and better at solving Puzzles, I finally was able to get past the one level that puzzled me for Years
oh and Good News it works really well on the Steam Deck
This game was a lot of fun to revisit 8/10 Bowie Approved
