Day 11 of the October Horror Reviews: Home Sweet Home
After playing this a long time ago a couple of times, I feel like it's only right I give this the proper respect it deserves.
Home Sweet Home feels like a bit of a monster-of-the-week horror game at first glance, but is actually pretty impressive given its origin, and it's rare to find Thai horror.
This game capitalises on a few horror tropes, one of which is the "lost wife" trope. But this game feeds on religious paranoia, using the sins of the protagonist and his wife as a launchpad for evil. The game has you explore multiple areas, encountering three separate entities of escalating evil, and the final one does feel genuinely quite unsettling - even if from first glance, you might not think so.
Home Sweet Home is the opus of Yggdrazil, and as you explore the complexities of Thai myths and legends, evading omens while simultaneously pursuing them... it feels very much like you're constantly under threat, even when you're back in the titular home.
Of course, the game isn't without its flaws, and plays a little like a walking simulator at times, not to mention it requires a little bit of patience for certain sections, and the ghost girl is maybe used a bit too frequently. That said, for an undertaking like this, the game feels well-polished, especially considering there are very few bugs.
If you're looking for something short, and the origin of an interesting series of games, I'd definitely give this a try. 7/10.

A cool and quite scary indie game. The advantages are definitely good and detailed level design as well as sounds and music that appeal to the senses. As for the gameplay itself, the game is interesting at the beginning and towards the end, but in the middle it becomes quite boring and repetitive. At the beginning we learn what we are facing, what to escape from, what the history is and what our goal is. Towards the end, there are a lot of stressful and scary moments. The game's soundtrack is more scary than the character chasing you, but I still had a lot of fun.

By far one of the coolest horror games I've ever played!! I don't think I've ever experienced a game that scared me quite like this one has. The atmosphere and the story had me so focused on what I was doing that specific times in the game really jolted me and gave some very solid scares.
I suppose my only complaint would be that the hide and seek mechanic was a bit over done and almost made certain parts of the game not really enjoyable to me. This is, however, a personal preference of mine because I think hide and seek mechanics in horror games scare me the most (lol), which makes it hard for me to focus on my tasks or take in my surroundings. That aside, as someone who doesn't really enjoy puzzles, I thought the ones in this game were super fun!! They weren't particularly too easy, but not too difficult either.
Overall, this is a beautifully built game and you can tell a lot of love was put into it. The more you progress, the difficult it gets and it WILL make you upset, but I feel like the good far outweighs the bad here. It's definitely not for the faint of heart either, so beware!

Terrifying and really enjoyable. Slightly weak english voice acting but the gameplay itself more than makes up for it.

This was the craziest game I've ever played, the more you progress the more difficult it gets, I even got angry, but it's a wonderful game, incredible graphics, if it gets very tense. It's one of the best horror games I've ever played

As a horror game fanatic person, this just hits the right place. And I can say the same thing for it's sequel as well.
