Alan Wake
When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love. Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls. With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.

You play as Alan Wake, a writer battling a sinister dark force using light as a weapon, trying to recover his missing wife and unravel the mystery of his own story. This is a horror thriller.
✅ Very dark atmosphere
✅ Strong, twist-filled narrative
✅ Good mix of action and horror
✅ Well-written plot and characters that keep us in suspense until the very end
✅ Graphically, the game looks phenomenal; in my opinion, it didn't need a remaster. It's from 2012 and is still impressive by today's standards (only the grass and bushes look bad).
✅ DLC included in the price (two special episodes that continue the main storyline).
✅ Varied locations (forests, campsites, a town, a power plant).
✅ Alan Wake's voice reading pages from the manuscript.
✅ Very good idea regarding equipment. We have a flashlight that blinds our enemies with its light, and additional items such as flares, flashbangs, and rocket launchers that provide light.
✅ Good weapon selection. We only have a revolver and two shotguns. I can't imagine having an AK-47 or M4 in this game.
✅ Very enjoyable shooting mechanics.
✅ Variable weather and atmospheric effects add to the immersion.
✅ Car driving motif has also been added.
✅ Great sound design that changes the tone of the game, keeping us on the edge of our seats. It fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the game.
✅ Dream sequences and hallucinations add an extra layer of mystery and unease.
✅ The artist's struggle with his work is a recurring motif throughout the game.
✅ Good character controls and fluid movement.
✅ Good menu options, including FOV adjustments.
✅ The game is divided into 6 episodes, plus 2 additional ones with great music after each one.
✅ The episodic structure gives it the feel of a great TV show.
✅ For fans of collectibles, the game has plenty to offer (106 typewritten pages, 100 coffee thermoses, knocking over 12 pyramids of cans, finding 30 hidden chests, 11 radio programs, 14 television programs, 25 signs, 10 alarm clocks, 6 cardboard silhouettes, and 10 games from the Night Springs series). There's plenty to explore, though I'm not a fan of this kind of content, so it's a plus for those who enjoy it.
✅ The game’s length is perfect; it's neither too short nor unnecessarily stretched out with an artificial, boring storyline.
✅ Three difficulty levels to choose from: easy, normal, and nightmare.
✅ No noticeable bugs.
✅ Very good price for such a high-quality game.
✅ Frequent save points throughout the game
✅❌ The game is linear, so, as with every linear game, everyone has to decide for themselves whether they enjoy that or not.
❌ Very weak puzzles. For example, the generator can be activated by double-clicking at the right moment. They could have introduced more complex puzzles or controlled them differently.
❌ Alan Wake's stamina is too low. He can run about 20 meters before getting tired, which quickly becomes frustrating for the player. Sprinting depletes stamina far too quickly.
❌ Jumping animation looks terrible.
❌ Poor enemy variety.
❌ The flashlight battery drains too quickly. The game could have allowed for longer battery life at the expense of fewer batteries scattered throughout the story.
❌ I don’t understand why the developers don’t allow players to start on “Nightmare” difficulty during their first playthrough.
✅✅✅ Verdict: Very Bad , Bad , Decent , Good , Very good , Excellent , Masterpiece

Alan Wake is a very interesting game with a very interesting storyline and way of storytelling. Casting the story and storytelling aside, I've seen many people complain about the gameplay but it gets easier as you progress so, patience is the key if you want to enjoy Alan Wake. Apart from its gameplay, its soundtrack is also worth mentioning due to the fact that there are some songs composed exclusively for it and they blend well with the story. Without dragging this out, Alan Wake is one of the most unique games I've ever played. If you ever get a chance to get your own copy, don't miss it!
>Visually and aurally, it's a stunning experience. Even if the gameplay weren't top-notch, I'd still go back to Alan Wake time and time again. Simply being there, in its world, is fascinating. Remedy crafts its moments so well that some of them are ingrained in my head. Listening to Pat Maine on the radio, shooting monsters on a stage while The Old Guards of Asgod blast away on the speakers, getting your first flares... it's great.
>Dodge system sucks. Everything else is great. Play it more like Max Payne and less like Resident Evil for best mileage. Forget this lesson when the sequel comes out.

Alan Wake is a game I probably never would have picked up if it hadn't been recommended by a friend, and I'm so glad they did.
Within the first hour, I found myself falling in love, and by the end of Episode 1, I was hooked. It's one of those stories where every answer only brings more questions. The world and its lore (at least from what I've uncovered so tar) are layered, mysterious, and deeply engaging.
Though it's marketed as a horror game - which is what initially made me hesitant - it never felt too overwhelming. There were a few jump scares here and there, but nothing too intense; just enough to keep me on edge. Exploring shadowy woods with only a flashlight was definitely eerie, but never unbearable.
The combat is a bit dated/clunky and stiff, but encounters are spaced out well and rarely felt frustrating, even on hard mode. Resource management is key early on, but once I got a feel for it, l usually had more than enough supplies to handle whatever the game threw at me.
Each episode has a semi-contained map, but there's still a decent amount of exploration. Finding manuscript pages, TV segments, and radio broadcasts added so much to the story and atmosphere. The voiced manuscripts in particular were a great touch - it made reading them feel like part of the experience rather than a chore.
For a game that's over a decade old, it still looks great. While it's not the most visually striking game out there, the moody lighting and bleak environments really work in its favor. I also found the acting to be surprisingly strong, which added to the immersion.
I played through both special episodes as well, and they added some interesting twists to the main story. That said, the first special was noticeably harder than anything else in the base game. I actually had to drop the difficulty, and even then it was tough going.
Overall, I'm really pleased I played this!

It's a gem, the second game is insanely better but please try it a shot.
You will thank me later.

A moody, atmospheric thriller with a compelling narrative and unique light-based combat. The gameplay can feel repetitive at times but the strong storytelling and eerie setting make it a memorable experience.

Alan Wake presents some great story ideas in the "weird" fiction space that you later see greatly expanded on in Control. The story is presented in a sort of TV episode style which adds to a certain vibe. Despite this, the gameplay is quite jank. Moving is painful, dodging is painful, getting staggered is painful, trying to keep enemies vulnerable to damage with light is painful. I thought I had already developed a good tolerance for jank but man this game tested me at times. Though I did get used to it in the end. Overall I'd recommend the experience for the story but it's not the most enjoyable game to actually play.
