Nioh is Dark Souls on steroids.
The combat, the weapons, the movesets, it has so much more depth than any other Soulslike game.
Actually calling Nioh a Soulslike does not do justice to the game, Nioh is Ninja Gaiden + Devil May Cry with the loot system of Diablo...and a bit of Dark Souls.
Also everything before NG+4 (Way of the Nioh) is just a tutorial, Way of the Nioh unlocks the 999 floors of the Abyss, new enemies variants with extra movesets and skills.
Godlike game!

Dark Souls design/game mechanics mixed with Devil May Cry's combat mixed with Diablo's loot system set in dark fantasy version of 1600s Japan

✅ Amazing souls-like game. Game is very difficult so be prepared to die a LOT
✅ Heavy loot gameplay (like Borderlands/Torchlight but in a souls-like game!)
✅ Deep combat system thanks to having 3 different stances. All 3 stances have different movesets and are useful in different situations
✅ Good story
✅ Variety of weapons to play with
✅ Equipment set bonuses are very cool
✅ Great graphics
✅ Auto-skip viewed cutscenes (a godsend in a boss fight, so many games don't do this)
✅ Massive amounts of contents. Very high replayability value
✅ Skills can be reset easily making it easier to switch builds
❌ Frame pacing is very bad. Very occasional stuttering
❌ Equipment sets cannot be switched during a mission making it pointless. It doesn't make sense, as you can switch equipments in a mission
❌ Elixirs (which is Estus Flash in DS) are limited in quantities and does not get restored when resting. This horrendous design artificially makes the game very very hard, as you have to use them wisely or else when you run out of elixirs, it's extremely tedious to farm them
❌ Loots are permanently lost when you die. Just why does this happen
❌ Some of the extremely essential skills are locked by default which does not make sense (like sneak attack & Ki dodge). If you don't unlock them (which is NOT apparent) the game is extremely difficult early on
❌ Missions can get stuck in aim-mode (use ALT button to fix it)

A RPG for action junkies. Take the level structure of a soulslike (Fromsoft games still have better level design), the loot system of a typical Diablo-style ARPG and then incorporate a combat system with as much depth and variety as the best spectacle fighters. The combat is twitchy, fast and demands you time your attacks (Like Ninja Gaiden). Each weapon is useful and fun it's just a matter of mastering them. While definitely challenging (Sometimes cheap with an overabundance of ambushes) its satisfying to play. The story is hard to follow but when your gameplay is this good the story doesn't have to be anything special. The endgame can feel more grindy then you'd like and leveling up endgame gear is an odd process of recycling gear. These don't detract from this being an amazing RPG for us twitchy masochists (Team Ninja fans)

Decent, but don't go in expecting Fromsoft quality and I hate how the DLC expects you to have done ng+ causing it to become a massive difficulty spike for people like me who can't be bothered to spend hours to get past level 150 when the mission level is 275.

Nioh is a game you can play forever, since it has a loot-based gear system(think your diablos or your borderlands). I personally hated it, since having to grind for loot/gear to do damage felt miserable past the first playthrough into NG+
A lot of Nioh's difficulty is entirely artificial, and in a pretty terrible way. Despite this, Nioh is a really fun take on the souls-like, with unique mechanics and interesting enemies. When i wasn't frustrated with the game's loot and RNG mechanics everything else just felt really good.

Had fun with this game, but you take at least 60-99% dmg to your health bar when you get hit by any mob that is not a tiny dude.
Some enemies basically just kill you with any hit, which is... frustrating.
Still with some cheese and easy to use strats these Problems are manageable and the combat smooth and fun.
