Ziggurat

Simple and to the point, exactly what I wanted. No unnecessary bs, just moving around running or bunny hopping and shooting. Know your enemies, know their attack patterns, know your weapons, prioritize accordingly. Starts with 2 characters, but there are many more to unlock. Every one of them coming with unique features. Same goes for "game modes" and yes one of them is "Endless" mode! A lot of weapons, items and amulets to unlock. "Hard" difficulty is not unlocked by default, you have to beat the game on "normal" with the character you want to play "hard" with. Oh yeah and this game is challenging! So far I have only finished one "hard" run. What a satisfying feeling. If you are like me and are into simple yet fun and challenging shooters, I recommend it even for full price. If you are not, wait for a sale. Highly recommended!

I didn't believe in love at first sight until I found this game. The moment I've seen someone giving it away for free I knew it'd be a banger for me. But even with that I was positively surprised. They could include a bitcoin miner, ransomware file decryptor and gangsta rap budget musical intro in it and I wouldn't care too much.
The combo of oldschool jumpy FPS + roguelike is already good enough, wish there were more good games like this. But it's also smooth/optimized, diverse, with lots of various room/weapon/enemy types and even has random LORE.
The only downside I found so far is that some of the settings are not saving. And the music is very loud - I lowered it to 10% and it's still somehow loud, have to go lower.

For a cheap game that regularly goes on sale and was released at the beginning or even before the big "indie rogue-like" craze, it's pretty good. Movement and shooting feels good, like a Quake game if anything, maps, while basic are decent enough and maze-y. The aesthetic reminds me of one of those fake games you'd see someone playing in a movie or TV show, in a good way. It's just a really basic, barebones, roguelike indie shooter with the only faults I can really pin on it coming down to just how basic and barebones it really is, which I can't even really fault it for since it was the one of the first in a now very over saturated genre.

I find myself with rather mixed feelings regarding Ziggurat. I somewhat feel it is a 6/10 game, one that does not offer enough mechanical, enemy, or map variety... As if it were a vertical slice proof of concept of a game.

The gameplay that is there isn't bad, it is a decent loop that at first you'll be good with, but it feels like there should be a lot more.

I would recommend the buy, but please not at full price.

This is the best FPS. Having retired from gaming 4 years ago, coming back to play this again now, there are so many things Milkstone nailed in Ziggurat! I'm also appreciating all the little cool developer things they did to make some of the levels work. Long live the daily challenges in Ziggurat!

this game was made in 2014 by the time i played it 2026 there is a market saturated with this type of games
i am sure that it was a great game back then but today it can't compete
and after all of that...

Interesting game but sadly a bit limited with variability. It could also be longer. Zigurat 2 improves on all these shortcomings and at this point it's probably better if you get that game instead of this one.
That said it's interesting enough for multiple playthroughs which is good and necessary considering it's a rogue-like.
